Yes 20 year olds weren't in the NBA before as much. That means most 90s superstars who had better early years had like 3 years of college developmental experience while also just being that much older in a age range of the most rapid muscle development. 22 year old Jordan has a lot more muscle mass on him than 19 year old UNC sophomore Jordan for example.


Also since young grade school age players with promise get access to much better professional level training infrastructure like with AAU compared to previous generations, a lot more players are more ready to join the league at 19 now than in decades past.

The modern era of one and done has been going on for over a decade. That's a decades worth of top lottery talent that came in at age 19 so that's a lot of good star level players that could have been on that list over Green but didn't make it.

 

Your stats aren't arbitrary, you're choosing them specifically to put Green in the best possible light.

That's why you cite scoring and not field goal attempts. That's why you cite ts% and not efg%. That's why you limit comparisons to 20 year olds when most 20 year olds are not taking the most shots on their team.

I cite ts% because it's flat out a better indicator of scoring efficiency. Efg% is a indicator of shooting efficiency. Scoring efficiency is a larger indicator of overall efficiency.


Again, Green literally has the highest ts% amongst the top 6 in his draft class outside of Mobley who is more of a lob threat than someone scoring off the dribble.

And also if you think that any 19 year old guards can just come in and take 17 fga without getting half their attempts blocked then you didn't listen to Ray Allen when he said the most underrated difficult aspect fans don't understand is getting up a unblocked shot attempt up in the NBA. If you think most high lottery guard picks are ready to chuck up 15-20 attempts a game without half of them being blocked at age 19 you are sorely underrating that aspect of the game as Ray Allen has said before.

I can't find exact data but we can make an assumption based on this list. It's a top 25 list of youngest drafted players ever. Number 25 doesn't even reach age 19 yet. So imagine there probably is around 100-200 players drafted before the age of 21 in league history. So Green would be top 10 in a list of about 20 players drafted around his age that fit the "arbitrary" criteria.

 

So the stat that Jalen is well below league average at is the best indicator?

Its said an NBA player is who he is by his third season in the league, the true “breakout” year. KD emerged as an efficiency diety, Harden won 6th man while leading the league in TS%, Chris Paul was robbed of MVP by Kobe, Derrick Rose stole LeBron’s MVP, et cetera.

If Jalen can replicate his improvement from this year into next year, with hopefully better coaching and improvements from everyone, 26-5-5 isn’t out of reach on decent efficiency, which should give us our first all star since Harden.

 

The Rockets aren't trading Green and even if they wanted to no one would want to trade for him.
