They do, but there is currently a significant gap that can be reduced with relatively little effort. At one time, nonconsensual p*rn, also known as revenge p*rn, was a thing, but it was quickly shut down with a concerted effort. Since then, changes have been made to older laws and new laws have been introduced to address any remaining gaps. While perfection may never be achieved, the gap has been significantly reduced. The key is to start rolling that ball.

By the way, the most recent change was made as part of the Violence Against Women Act, which was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022, also known as the 1.5T omnibus spending bill.

My oldest is 7 and she has a few friends who already have their own phones. Some of them are disconnected from the internet and have no data plan so they're just cameras and hand-held gaming devices, which I suppose isn't too bad, but others have full internet access and social media accounts. Seems crazy to me.

I'm thinking about getting my oldest one of the new kid Garmin smartwatches that would allow her to share her location with me and send voice messages to me and my wife, but I'm nowhere near allowing her to have a phone. 16 seems like an ok age to have one, but 18 is even better.

Anyway this story is horrific. I have no real solutions. I just hope my children don't ever find themselves feeling so low.

What is wrong? Like the rest of us, they are 99% genetically identical to chimpanzees, and our branch of primates behaves terribly on the regular. I'm not saying give up, but I get frustrated every time I read someone wondering "what is wrong with people." Well, call it original sin, or call it genetic origins, but we have terrible factory settings.

Human society is far less violent than chimp society as our greater brain function lets us reason out and problems better along with social institutions. Aggression, shame and group identity is still wired into us and there are probably evolutionary reasons to that. For example survival is dependent on the group and bullying is a way of keeping compliance with the group.

Bullying might not be a bug but a feature.

In my view kids under 18 should only have flip phones capable of calls and text. Driver license requirement for creating any new Instagram, Facebook, TikTok etc type accounts.

I understand kids for educational purposes need access to some form of computer such as a laptop to access school content, emails etc. But there has to be a way to tangibly restrict teens from creating social media accounts.

Kids are fricken evil, especially teenagers. When I was in high school, a 8th grader killed himself due to bullying. a bunch of kids constantly harrassed him after school and threw eggs at him. This was before everyone had phones.

Now that we have social media, it's even worse.

I 100% support blocking outlawing social media usage for children under 18. BBS too.

My 13 year old daughter just cuts out toxic people out her life. She had a couple of elementary friends that were petty and drama. Now, she has 2 close school basketball friends and a few from her national honor society.

I don't restrict my daughter from her phone at all. She keeps her stuff private and doesn't add anybody.

Im starting to agree with this. I dont have the time nor desire to pay attention to my son's usage of this crap. I am in the process of figuring out how to make sure he doesnt have it and it stays off is iphone.

Poor girl. Her poor family. This is an outrage.

I attended junior high with a boy who was relentlessly harassed and bullied. He ended up going to the other high school that our school fed into. In 11th grade we got the news that he had hung himself. The bullying obviously continued and it was too much for him. This was way before social media, but yes I do think kids are too young to handle social media and so the problems are even worse now.

She was walking with her "Boyfriend". Where was he in all of this?
Not overly relevant but interesting nonetheless
(I cannot imagine watching my girl get knocked out without doing something)

As for the Father . . . well I think I would be looking to give a few ass beats out myself
Not even necessarily to the girls but their parents. . . . maybe if the parents start taking these Ls for their kids
they will control their kids better

As for social media . . . it is simply taken far far too seriously.
We might need some classes on this for schools and even adults

Pretty sure there is a bill filed on that at the state level. Filed by the same guy who wants the state to take over. Austin…

To where? Child forever denied a basic education?
Why not just make a REAL PHYSICAL PIPELINE from Schools to Prisons

Like Guns . . . I think the regulation of social media is a non-starter for alot of people
So . . . like Guns we teach our kids Shooter Drills . ..we will have to start teaching our kids Social Media Drills

Honestly. Posting people on Social Media without their consent will IMO become illegal at some point .
And I cannot say I don't agree. Even the most innocuous post can do damage.

While I may chuckle at the "PEOPLE OF WALMART" type things . . . It is definitely a violation
People say . . .well if you in the public then anything goes. . . you have no expectation of privacy in the public
There is privacy but there is also using someone pictures without their consent . . . which is imo different than privacy

I was just watching a series about an IG Fitness model who basically tried to shame this guy for "looking at her in the gym."
Had his whole face and everything in the video .. . . labeled him a creeper . . .. . I don't think much became of it
(other than people calling her out about her bullsh!t) . . . but dude could have taken a massive L if it went the other way

You should, and you shouldn't trust her 100%, either. She's a person and hormones, invulnerability complex and her own wants and desires are going to drive her to lie to you at some level. It's inevitable, every kid does it. Think about your own childhood.

There is zero reason for an adolescent to have any social media. And very little for an adult to have it, either. It's a cancer for our society.

For boys it's different. Look out for p*rn with him. For whatever reason, social media doesn't affect boys nearly as much. p*rn will mess him up.

bullying was rampant before social media was ever a thing

the nature of a bully is molded at the home

also, I hear of far too many instances where a school did nothing until it reached a boiling point and something newsworthy happened

Bullying is so different now since whatever embarrassing moment can be recorded and put online. Then you have all your friends and kids at school and likely strangers laughing at you and piling on. For an adolescent that could be intolerable.

I keep FB primarily for the neighborhood page to keep up with events and what not. Once someone posted a pic of my son and I walking our dog. They complained because we didn’t pick up the poop. (It was the one damn time I had forgotten a bag…) The post and comments were about what you would expect. People calling me names, what kind of father was I, could anyone identify me and where I live. (!) I didn’t post and engage but it bothered me a grown ass man for days.

The bullying, public shaming, hide behind the keyboard and type terrible things you would never say face to face aspect of social media is really disgusting.

Liberal bullshit. You guys don't raise your children correctly. You can say what you want but these are the results. A poor girl had these results because your people didn't want to hurt feelings.

This shows you aren't really understanding the story here.

The suicide didn't happen because liberals refused to hurt feelings.
