Their salaries are pretty good. Makes me a little jealous with the work I've put in, not gonna lie. Good for those people, though. I will always have fond memories of Buccees in the Lake Jackson/Brazoria/Jones Creek area with my grandparents in the early/mid 90's. Buccees can do no wrong, based off nostalgia alone.
I’m glad they’re paying for quality workers and expect and maintain a higher standard. Their biggest draw for travelers started as clean restrooms. Then it grew into a redneck utopian carnival, which I enjoy walking in to occasionally and just watching. It’s not new, though. There are several previously minimum wage companies that have been doing this for a while. Starbucks and Wendy’s come to mind.
Title of your sex tape? It's hard to drive past a Buccees without stopping and walking around for a bit. That's the original one, right? Stopped there a jillion times on my way to/from Surfside.
$225K per year is almost certainly bullshit. Kind of reminds me of those scam ads, "I got this PS5 for $3.27!". You probably have to work 80 hours a week, overnights, and be top line manager. Like, yeah, it's technically possible, but you'd basically be dead (both physically and spiritually) after a year or two of doing it. Also, Buc-ee's is notoriously awful to work for. No sitting, even on your break? On an 8+ hour shift? Get ****ed, Beaverboy.
No idea, but their Glassdoor is a horrorshow, and the Reddit threads about them are just as bad. They pay 15-20% above industry average because they grind you to dust, basically.
Relatedly, I was talking to a buddy the other day, he's a manager at HEB in Bee Cave, and he swears that is the best company he's ever worked for....you know, treating employees like actual human beings and such.
My buddy who had an extensive background in restaurant management had a job as an assistant manager over food at Buccees for about 6 months (he was just burned out on the food industry, married a rich lady and ended up getting a job at the local PD as the guy who gets **** done). I asked him his impression from his time there: Amazing organization as far as knowing what gets sold by the hour. To keep waste down. Efficiency of a restaurant as far as food prep. it was a good environment. They were efficient, they pay well, most people seemed happy, very cross generational workforce, some retirees, high school/college kids, typical adults were in management/shift leaders etc. Another friend’s son worked there and really liked it.
I don't know about the hours, but I recall reading their lowest-paid salaries are around $16/hr and the GM's make $150,000-$225,000. But like I said, I don't know if it's a sweatshop or not. I've been inside several Bucee's during busy hours, and couldn't wait to escape.
I went to high school with a guy who started as a sacker/cart-chaser at HEB in 1999. He's still there, happy as a clam, and makes great money running the store.
Yep, that's me. Working at the big stores sucks ass. The smaller ones - not so bad. 15 minute break, no lunch, have to stand when on your break. For me, as some dumbass college kid, that's fine. But these rules also applied to the elderly employees who needed a job to live, and that's insane. I saw a 70ish year old lady start sobbing because she was so worn down and she just wanted to sit in a chair for a few minutes but they wouldn't let her. In fact, one of the kind and handy maintenance men built a table and several chairs to provide to Bucees for free so we could sit down in the back room during break, but management made him remove it. I do think the managers of the big locations make good money. They do have to work hard and work often, though, so it's not a cushy job by any means. But if you are great at blowing smoke up customers' asses and don't mind working every holiday, it's a good gig to be a store manager. Anyway the store is very, very lawsuit happy so I hope I don't get sued for writing this. And to everyone on CF: feel free to @ me if you want me to b**** about this or anything else. I'm pretty good at whining over things that aren't actually a big deal.
My son works at HEB. He's 19 and makes $17/hr. They give him $300 holiday bonus every year plus a free turkey. We also get a "partner" discount of 20% off HEB/HCF products. That includes produce, meat, delivery, bakery etc. We save about 40-50 every 2 weeks overall. They seem to be a great company.
