Yes it does. The doj has stopped federal funding and pushed for reforms. They fired a bunch of prison wardens in the south because of abuse. You spew so much bs it's sad seriously.
I saw that on another forum. Back benchers in state houses put forward far fetched bills all the time. My guess is this won’t get much further than committee.
Obama on lapel pins: "My attitude is that I’m less concerned about what you’re wearing on your lapel than what’s in your heart. You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who serve. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and ideals. That’s what we have to lead with is our values and our ideals.” It's just that their values and ideals are mainly about weapons of mass murder.
Am I the only one who wonders how Seth Meyers has made it this far? I’ve seen a couple of his Late Night clips, and for a guy who’s supposed to be a comedian, I have never laughed once…not even cracked a smile
Mitch McConnell confirms that Rick Scott's plan is to sunset Social Secuirty and backs off the rest of the Republican caucus from him. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...-sunset-medicare-social-security/11227447002/ That’s not a Republican plan': McConnell distances GOP from Scott on Social Security, Medicare sunset plan Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said any idea on sunsetting Social Security and Medicare belongs to Sen. Rick Scott—not the GOP. “Unfortunately, that was the Scott plan, that’s not a Republican plan,” McConnell said on a Kentucky radio program. McConnell’s comments about Scott, a GOP rival, come as the White House continues to spotlight how Republicans heckled — and apparently committed not to touch entitlement programs — during President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address this week. “Speaker (Kevin) McCarthy said Social Security and Medicare are not to be touched and I’ve said the same,” McConnell told radio host Terry Meiners on Thursday. “And I think we’re in a more authoritative position to state what the position of the party is than any single senator.”
during Biden's STUA, Republicans Angry at Joe Biden for Accurately Describing Rick Scott's Plan to Sunset Social Security on the next day, Rick Scott refuted Biden's description saying "I’ve never advocated cutting Social Security or Medicare and never would. I will not be intimidated by Joe Biden twisting my words, on the following day, Biden traveled to Florida, speaking at a gathering, brochures of Rick Scott's 11 point plan to save America were given to attendees; Biden read from the brochure that Social Security and MediCare need be sunset. https://thehill.com/homenews/admini...outrageous-views-on-social-security-medicare/ i in early 2022, Florida Sen. Rick Scott, the chair of the Republican Senate campaign arm, released what he called an “11 Point Plan to Save America.”; sub-point 7 of point 6 reads: “All federal legislation sunsets in 5 years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again.” The plan doesn’t single out Medicare and Social Security specifically, but these are programs that were established by federal legislation and would thus disappear under Scott’s proposal unless renewed every five years. This is an … impracticable idea. Congress can’t rewrite all federal law every five years—nor should anyone want them to. As for the US Senator from Utah, Mike Lee,
I think he has a very narrow but relatively dedicated band of middle-aged white people who find him amusing and comforting, like a dopey, awkward nephew or something. I'm like you -- I don't get it -- but I have an in-law who watches this show every night and will not miss it for anything. Weird. (She doesn't laugh much either. Just watches.)
Medicare and SS have dedicated revenue streams and while they are part of the overall budget they shouldn’t be under the same scrutiny when we talk about balancing the budget, reducing the national debt, cutting spending, etc. The fix for those two are simple just eliminate the income cap. It’s defense and Medicaid where all your income tax dollars go and 2/3 of Medicaid spending is for elderly nursing home care that Medicare won’t cover. The majority of the other 1/3 is for children and pregnant women. If you want to cut spending, reduce the debt, etc. you either cut nursing home care for poor Seniors or you cut defense. Cutting other programs and other spending is a waste of time unless you address those.
SSN + Medicare alone account for ~35% of the budget of 2022 and will continue to increasingly make up a larger % of the federal budget as not only more people retire, but those that are retiring are more obese and unhealthy. Medicare + Medicaid + CHIP + ACA accounted for ~25% of the budget in 2022. Defense accounted for 13% in 2022. My point is if we are serious about reducing the budget then the pain needs to be spread around to everyone.
Furthermore..... take a look at municipalities and states...... increasingly the budgets are being spent on retired folks. Sorry, but we can't afford to be so generous.... we've long known this was happened but because of the political nature of the issue it has been brushed to the side and flat out ignored.
I agree that the largest amount of the overall budget goes to the elderly. SS, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans and retiree benefits, even welfare programs like food stamps and section 8 housing. Point is that SS and Medicare are earned benefits if you didn’t work enough you don’t get them and they have their own revenue streams. SS can be shored up by eliminating the cap. If we want to fix the problem we need to revamp healthcare in the US by adopting a single payer system, make deep cuts in defense and other programs and eliminate the SS income cap.
How does them being earned benefits exclude them from reform or cuts? They pay out quite a bit more than was put in. I just find the GOP’s arguments over the debt and budget to be disingenuous when they don’t put things in like socialism for seniors and ethanol subsidies. Not to mention they only occur when a Democrat is president.
Absolutely blows my effin mind when people talk about "reducing the budget" but never about Increasing the receipts. How about we take back the 2 trillion dollar tax scam which trump passed or the trillion dollar tax scam that Bush passed. Always has to be middle class and working class that gets effected. We don't need to reduce the budget. We need to make the tax system more fair. Lets pass a damn estate tax.
I find your posts to be interesting and informative. I have a question for you - what do you think the estate tax should be? I generally agree that an estate tax should exist, but I struggle with it. I grew up in a lower class immigrant household, and everything I have is based on my own hard work, talent and sacrifices (I get that I had two parents and a roof over my head, it I think you know what I mean. E.g., I worked and paid for my own education). I saved and made sacrifices so that my kids will have more opportunity and a fair shake in life, if not a head start. It’s also a legacy of my parents bringing us to this country. I think I should be able to bequeath whatever I don’t spend to my kids and any grandkids. I think an estate tax should exist, but would probably apply it to fairly large estates…like something in the range of $10MM adjusted for inflation
