I'm a little confused why the board is still worried about us missing out on Victor. The Magic, who have the fifth worst record in the NBA, are 8 games in front of us. We're not catching them.

Basically, the tank has already achieved it's objective. We're going to finish in the bottom four.

As far as getting the #1 pick and landing Victor, we have a 14% chance if we finish in the bottom 3, and a 12.5% chance if we finish 4th. Are we really rooting for more losses just to to get that extra 1.5%?

The answer is yes...yes we are. What a time to be a Rockets fan! :(

Wait, I reduce my grade to B since Nix is still here and KPJ is still apparently "the" PG.

My dislike for Tilman is so strong that I believe only a generational player can help drag this franchise back to relevance. I dont want to mess around at all right now.

i don't think silver is sending victor here, which means it's important we have the worst record. ie. it could mean the difference between the 5th pick vs the 7th pick. also the spurms are in turbo tank mode and i see them overtaking us for the worst record

You get rid of Gordon without taking on long term salary, you get best available FRP situation in a swap as you missed out last year but you add 2 vets in green & holiday who can help our wings develop if they stay without hurting PT along with Frank who’s no worst than Bruno. Losing matthews hurt as he’s the best shooter on the team, but it’s plenty of shooters in FA this summer who do more than just sniping and it allows more PT for Gup and TyTy with KPJ out. Trading for Wall had to be done to make money work, it’s a business…

    I give him a B+.

My biggest criticism is they waited so long to trade Gordon and in the end got a semi-valuable pick swap. We should have traded him for or replaced him with a veteran PG to organize this team. I think he was so unhappy here, surely they could have gotten this same return in the past 2 years.

I love Bruno but I would just rather play Garuba and see what we've got. If he's not cut for the NBA then let's trade him in the summer, but just play the kid and give him a shot to develop. Same with Matthews vs Josh Christopher. I think it's time Josh develops or not.

Next season we're trying to win so we have to know what we've got with all our picks. Positives of deadline:

    - Getting rid of Gordon. Thank you for those title years Gordon, but I really didn't like the fit on the roster. The players seemed to emulate his worst habits and I know he's a better player than what he's been showing. He was checked out and that's not a good energy to have around the team.

    - If Danny Green practices with the team and maybe even plays a good chunk of games this season, his experience winning 3 titles would be nice to have in the locker room. I hope they keep him on the roster, I don't know where he is with his health. Tate and Green have the right characteristics to show our young guys the ropes from multiple perspectives.

    - Getting to waive John Wall is always a pleasure.

    - Opens up minutes for Garuba and JC and the younger players in general. I'm hoping they don't do something stupid like give minutes to Frank Kaminsky. It's time to give Tyty minutes over Nix.

    - Keeps our chance at a lottery pick high.

    - Didn't take back long term salary. I hope they use the cap space to acquire a great player in trade this summer which would make it infinitely easier to acquire a great 2nd player. First tier or save the cap space if you ask me. I don't want any 2nd tier stars with our cap space and I think we should be extremely patient with that. Someone will eventually become available while we build this team up from scratch. Getting back to playoff basketball is the best remedy for team culture.

    Grade B.

Gordon moved out of trade rumor purgatory. ( *John Collins faints* )

Draft pick improve with some bench movement (Gary and Bruno). Stone still clinging to improve with the draft. Seems to be only way team is trying with the rebuild 3yrs in.

Moves were understandable. There were other teams who won this deadline. So possible missed opportunities if actual good offers for Tate or KJ were rejected.

We also didn't get anyone (of significant impact). Didn't get a person like Conley. Is Danny getting waived or a lockeroom presence since injury.

Grade A would be reserved for something higher. Not turrrrrrible, solid B for improving at the margins.

    A.

Gordon, Mathews and Fernando leave more minutes for Christopher, Eason and Garuba.

Gordon has netted a value equivalent to a late 1st round (potentially moving fron 28-29 to around 20 in the draft, is equivalent to a 23-24 pick according to previous draft trades), and it’s better for us to have one better pick than 2 not so good picks, as we have too many youngsters and few minutes for them.

Fernando and Matthews would not help the team in the long term, and they netted us 2 potentially good second round picks, that we could also use to move up a little in the draft if someone we like becomes available around 17-18.

The regular season so far has been a D-.

I reserve those grades for later.

NBA trade deadline winners and losers: Kevin Durant gets his wish

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/02/09/nba-trade-deadline-winners-losers/

    excerpt:

    Houston Rockets (losers)
After years of rumors, the Rockets received an underwhelming return for Gordon, landing only a pick swap and veteran players who don’t make much sense with their youth movement. More importantly, their position as the leaders in the tank race for the 2023 presumptive No. 1 pick, French phenom Victor Wembanyama, was weakened when the Pistons (Saddiq Bey) San Antonio Spurs (Jakob Poeltl) and Charlotte Hornets (Plumlee, McDaniels) all executed sell-off trades.

B- since we didn't get that veteran who has champion pedigree, can still play and wants to stay.

This is an ... interesting ... take. A nice combination of not realizing that the Rockets also sold off everyone who doesn't fit and helps them win (maybe with the exception of Tate) and that the race for Wemby only depends on finishing bottom 3, not bottom 1 and the two teams they cite are the only real competition for bottom 3.

    Just a bad writeup....

Do you think Scoot could be a generational-type guy? Definitely agree about Tilman

I really like the Gordon trade. We could easily move up 5-10 spots in the draft, and with some of our other assets as trade sweetener if things go right we could trade up into the lottery all the way from Milwaukee's pick which is currently at the very bottom. Condensing some of these loose meh assets into one good draft pick is exactly what we should be doing. Drafting a bunch of late first round talents has already created a roster problem, we don't need to keep doing it.

The other trade is likely a big nothing burger, but nonetheless we turned 2 scrap heap players into 2nd round picks without retaining long term salary, so certainly a minor win.

Normally it's the golden middle road.

Homies would give out B+ and sceptics C-.

    So it's a B- or C+.

    B-
The reality is Rockets we’re never going to get a mid First Rounder neither last year or this year. The fact that Stone turned Bucks pick 28-30 range for Clippers pick 17-21 is a win.Think we don’t need another 3 more rookies this year we are already complaining about rookies not getting minutes plus keep in mind Clippers have second hardest schedule remaining so pick can even turn into lottery barring an injury.
