I feel like the reason this is difficult to answer is it really depends on your criteria. For me, this deadline was really an A+. It went far better than I would even imagined a week ago. However, the best trade for the Rockets wasn't made by the Rockets or for the Rockets. The complete dismantling of the Nets super team was better than anything else we could have hoped for. The other moves were fine. I'm thrilled to be rid of Gordon and Mathews so that they no longer get playing time over future GOAT Josh Christopher. And that we were able to get the clippers pick swap and a few second round picks is just the cherry on top. I also love that we got John Wall back; not because I actually want him but because it's hilariously awkward for him a month after calling the whole organization "beyond trash". I would actually love it if they just sit him at the end of the bench all the way through next year just to mess with him. Yeah. I'm petty. So what. I'm cool with them buying out Danny Green though. Overall, I think everybody here should be over the moon even if you're not particularly thrilled with Stone's performance. Anyway, there really wasn't a young star available. I think the best younger player who changed teams was Mikal Bridges. I love him but I think if we want him, we still have the best shot at him as we can give the Nets back their picks and control of their rebuild if we really want him. But, personally, I'd love to hold on to those and see if Kyrie Irving destroys the Mavericks and Luka demands a trade.
A because we got rid of Gordon Seriously though, it didn't matter much what we did today. The real test comes in the off season
It's hard to trace from the limited information. My understanding is 2 came in for the Mathews/Bruno trade and 2(??) went out for the Gordon trade to LAC.
Overall: B+. Stone got a C. He held Gordon too long and there was not much value left. He couldn't pick up a veteran point guard that is willing to play and mentor the young for this team. He did make trade to open up minutes for some previous FRPs. Nets FOs got a A+. They broke up the team which made the 2024 pick a lot more interesting, Average B+. Stone is still a crappy GM but he seriously lucked out for this time. Truth to be told, GM does need some lucks, Tim Connelly is a perfect example.
There is no mention of sending out second round picks from the Rockets in the Eric Gordon trade. I got this information from nba.com. Nba.com mentioned that the Rockets acquired 3 second round picks from the Grizzlies along with Danny Green too. I will ask J.R. to look into that. @J.R.
