As in....some schools include LGBTQ-based books that contain p*rnography. (e.g. "Let's Talk About It"). Students and teachers are getting suspended for not using preferred pronouns. Again - if you think there's no problem and it's not worthy of discussion, feel free to not participate.
Nope Nope Nope. The fact that it's such a small problem and a ideological side that has a 100+ year history of spamming negative content about marginalized groups to create hatred and systemic oppression of them from Jews to migrants to lgbtq people are doing this same tactic on trans people is why any empathic human should exactly care. The fact that it is such a small issue that gets spammed to death by a group that spreads hate constantly is exactly why I am going to pay attention.
So... a moment ago you said it's "crazy talk" that this is an issue of discussion... Now, you're saying the opposite.
this is an interesting thread question. when it comes to transgenders its hard to say where i draw the line. its all situational. like what if she is really hot with nice boobs and youre drunk and horny?
if one school district is forcing young women to share a locker room with someone who has a penis, I would say that's one time too many. I'd suggest a compromise: use the bathroom or locker room, and perform the sport that corresponds to your genitalia, and I will gladly refer to you however you wish.
Here's a good read from Riley Gaines, collegiate competitive swimmer: https://www.iwf.org/2023/02/08/i-attended-bidens-state-of-the-union/
So even though you yourself acknowledge it's limited use even one instance is worth new laws and national handwringing over? You're making my argument for me that this is largely driven to rile people up politically when the issue is really very small in scope.
I read Riley Gaines piece and to note again that Lia Thomas only won the 500 and not in record placing time. In the 200 that Gaines mentioned she tied with Thomas and both finished 5th, not sure what trophy they were handing for finishing 5th place. That aside the fact that Thomas coudl only win one race out of several and couldn't even outrightly beat Gaines for 4th place shows that Thomas doesn't have much of a competitive advantage. In most of Thomas races at that meet she didn't even make the podium. FYI here is how Lia Thomas did at the 2022 NCAA Swim Meet In March 2022, Thomas became the first openly transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I national championship in any sport, after winning the women's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:33.24; Olympic silver medalist Emma Weyant was second with a time 1.75 seconds behind Thomas.[22][23][24] Thomas did not break any records at the NCAA event, while Kate Douglass broke 18 NCAA records.[25] Thomas was 9.18 seconds short of Katie Ledecky's NCAA record of 4:24.06.[26] In the preliminaries for the 200 freestyle, Thomas finished second. In the final for the 200 freestyle, Thomas placed fifth with a time of 1:43.50. In the preliminaries for the 100 freestyle, Thomas finished tenth. In the finals for the 100 freestyle, Thomas placed eighth out of eight competitors in 48.18 seconds, finishing last.[27]
I'm saying the people who insist "you're a bigot if you disagree" are forcing those who disagree to look at alternative solutions. new laws is one.
I said you're a bigot if someone would like to be referred to as a certain way but because you think they are immoral you insist on referrring to them another way. Anyway as a conservative aren't you for limited government but now because 0.5% of the population with far less than that being actual competitive athletes requires changing the laws?
I didn't specifically say you as I was responding to a general statement. Unless you are qualifying that statement as only referring to youself. The opposition to using pronouns of choice has been stated by many is because they consider transgender people to be immoral and representing an unnatural lifestyle. Now why would you choose to not use the pronouns of a person's choice? EDIT: sorry I was "you" in a general sense. That said the question above still applies.
I've literally never heard a single person say they oppose PNOC (pronouns of choice) because they think transgenderism is immoral. and there are many, many people who insist on PNOC who are not trans.
You draw the line when you have to draw two circles with a line in the middle @Os Trigonum @Jontro @Reeko
