After last's game I was sick! They had the game in the hands and gave it away. And those refs were one of the worst crews I have ever seen. Sure the Rockets are 13 and whatever and they are truly abysmal BUT after I saw the Rocket players hugging Sacramento players after their 4th straight loss to the Kings and the last one being taken away from them, I had to turn it off! Not saying they should've been fighting on the court but to be hugging their opponents and congratulating them, I just don't get it! I could not see MJ congratulating Barkley, Magic or Bird after a game either of them lost in that fashion. Also, I heard this morning that Jalen Green said in his Postgame interview that last night's game was FUN!!! FUN? I just don't get it
If you are saying todays players are not built like the Golden Age guys of the 90s then I agree. Nothing wrong with sportsmanship though.
Previous generation players had leaded gasoline to deal with. Gen Z and millennial players being more cordial can just simply be a product of that stuff not being in the air.
Winning at all cost mentality isn’t as prevalent anymore. It starts in youth sports where simple participation is the priority. Scores, placement and hard work are secondary to trying your best and having fun in the sport. While there are a lot of positives to sport training at a young age now days, better techniques, self enjoyment, team work, discipline (sometimes) and sportsmanship, there will be a continuous decline in competitive mentality. It’s just not taught or encouraged anymore.
Can’t have rivals when you suck donkey balls. The league is also more AAU like in nature so unless you are actively fighting on the court like the Grizzlies you won’t see much angst.
It is absolutely not a myth. Competitive mentality is down in majority of youth and Olympic sports. That’s not necessarily saying it’s not a priority, but it’s not the priority. One opinion piece isn’t going to change what the overwhelming majority of coaches and people involved in sports think of todays training methods. Most athletes today don’t know what adversity is, they tend to crumble under pressure.
I would say most coaches today are at the age where leaded gasoline damaged their brains where I don't think they are rational arbiters here. Boomers and gen x generations are known for their lower IQ and therefore think anything where it ain't gorilla puffing chest is weak. A lot of toxicity with those generations. Participation trophies have always been a thing and millennials and gen Z when they were kids never thought of participation trophies as something to be proud of but rather just memento pieces to remember good times with friends.
You really sound like a buffoon when you make up things like this. You quoted an opinion piece about participation trophies when no one brought them up. Then bring up some made up pseudo sciences about lead and boomers. You sound ridiculous. Using trigger words like toxicity doesn’t make you sound smart, I’m sorry. Most coaches aren’t worried about hardcore old school mentality or participation trophies. Competition is being put on the back burner to encourage more participation in sport. That is fine, as long as you’re teaching what sport is. Competition isn’t a negative thing, it breeds excellence.

I do find it funny the one way street mindset of gen x and boomers. "we can **** on millennials and gen x all day but the moment they say something about us, we will cry like whiney little b****es".
Instagram Generation but it all began with the Superfriends, Team US and Team US youth teams. "It's a business and we are all brothers under the roof of Players association.."
Most mellenials and gen Z have arguably been emasculated or at least messed up in the brain due to BPA and other microplastics in food containers. Lead in the gasolene was simply replaced by microplastics in the brain.
Typical pansy response. No one is whining about anything, you sound like an idiot. You have obviously never competed at a high level in anything
Correlation. Also, you do realize that there’s a large section of millennials that are coaching, specifically at the lower levels right? From a technical standpoint, I’m a millennial. And I guarantee I have a higher IQ than you
I hope man. Not something to brag about. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. But I do get tired of the whole "participation trophies" nonsense Also ya "correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation" is a thing but there is also a thing called "statistically significant". A lot of correlations aren't statistically significant. Only if you squint you see the correlation. With leaded gasoline it's a very strong statistical significance. Also there are mechanistic explanations for lead and it's responsibilities in lowering IQ
someone tweeted the other day about NBA players today, ended his tweet like : '..., in old days, players would play their hearts out'. man those old good days long gone! NBA players today ain't play for bread and butter, they play for lamborghini, play for fun. most of them belongs to billionaire club (before retire). that's why Chuck's so pissed off when touch on work ethic issues of these young sons lol
