Wasting significant cap space on Derek Carr when we have numerous holes on the roster that we could use the cap space for would be an all time horrible decision for a rebuilding team. We need to take advantage of paying very little for a qb to fill out the roster, not waste years with a non elite qb who isn’t going to get us to the Super Bowl anyway.

But do we want to be a middle of the pack team?

Seems like a lot of folks around here are banking on the team being at the bottom again, which I don't see as possible.
Better coach, decent amount of cap space for FA's, a year of experience for last years rookies, and a draft coming tht could net us some more talent and depth. I see this team as a legit 6 or 7 win team. with or without a Vet QB

I was going to say this too but I wanted to wait until after FA and the draft. Carr takes up almost all our remaining cap space.
We get Carr, just forget about getting any other FAs because he’ll take the remaining cap space

Ironically, unless the GM/HC are totally sold on one of the QBs at #2, then I think this may be where we land.

Well, let's say we have the 14th and 18th picks next year...

We find a QB we like, we offer those two, a future 1, and a future 2 to get into 3-8 range...

The goal is to have a vet on a 2-3 year deal, not 4 or 5...

Not opposed to taking QB, just ok passing if scouting thinks they aren't worth it.

This is exactly right. Derek Carr on a short term deal would be a great get for the Texans. Raiders are in dysfunction and they lost a lot of games in stupid fashion that weren't the QB's fault, but people forget Carr is a 4x Pro Bowler, and just made the Pro Bowl THIS YEAR. With Carr you know what you're getting and you are set at QB while you build up the team. Young or Stroud is a gamble during a time this roster needs some consistency/stability.

I am ok with either scenario really, drafting Young/Stroud, or signing Carr to be the QB of the present, while you look for the QB of the future.

Pro bowl is overrated. Tyler Huntley is one this year.

I haven’t seen it mentioned, and I’m not advocating for it, but how would you guys feel about trading for Jordan Love from the Packers?

I was waving this flag a couple months ago but it looks like Rodgers will be leaving and Love will get his shot

Just being realistic here, but having a first-time head coach AND a rookie QB is a recipe for last place in the league. With Caserio's seat getting hotter, I expect them to go with experience at QB. Even the very best QBs are bad as rookies. I expect us to bring in a free agent QB, or continue on with Mills and surrounding him with as much talent as possible.

I think they are going to roll with Mills. New staff may want to see if they can coach him up, and if not draft a QB next year.
I may not like it but realistically why would we bring in a high priced QB if we all know we are not going to the Super bowl next year.
I know Demeco had no part in coaching up Purdy, but he might have a guy that can do more with Mills skill set than Pep.
A good center, anyone better than Burkhead to spell Pierce, with Metchie coming back and any other WR assets teamed with a quality rookie TE with our 2nd round pick and we are far better than last year.

And, this improves the defense, the defense was pretty OK until the late stages of the 3rd quarter thru the 4th, simply because the team was gassed from being on the field so often.

I would like to see the Texans do this

    1-2: Will Anderson
1-12 trade back a few spots and get CB Joey Porter
2nd round, grab whatever of the 3 TE's remain.
Rest of the draft BPA, with a focus on a running back and WR

    Free agent pick up's
    DL, Daron Payne
    Center, Ethan Pocic
    TE maybe Gesicki ?
