We have a large number of weeks playing Friday through Wednesday, so I wouldn't mid six days rest unless/until we start having problems getting 5+ innings from our SPs. I think it's better for both the SPs and the Bull Pen. 5 games rest or 6 man rotation equals 162/6 = 27 turns in the rotation @6 IP = 162 IP 4 games rest or 5 man rotation equals 162/5 = 32.5 turns in the rotation @ 6 IP = 195 IP You're 33 IP fresher going into the playoffs. Just think of the number of pitchers who were injured in or leading up to the playoffs on other teams.
Absolutely this. Astros, once again, ahead of the curve and changed the game by prioritizing starter level pitchers and deploying a 6 man rotation when possible. It kept the pitchers fresh in the postseason, but maybe even more importantly, also kept the pen fresh by being able to toggle in long relief here and there. We are going to see a lot more teams try to use a 6 man rotation. Of course, that only works when you have 7 - 8 solid guys deep that are able to start games.
Agree completely Framber, Javier, McCullers, and Brown are starters and need to keep to a regular routine. But if that is pitching every 6 days instead of 5 days no issue at all. Garcia and Urquidy should tandem start when there are off days.
The answer lies between. 30 starts per starter (if all 5 starters were to never miss a start) + 12 starts by the 6th starter. Sprinkle in about 20 missed starts by the 5 starters and you'll need about a full season of starting from 6th starter and beyond. So I don't think it matters you misses out on that 5th starter. In fact I hope it's Brown because I'd like to see him mixed in with the bullpen.
I think it's a matter of managing each starter's workload based on their capacity for innings, so they aren't gassed by the postseason. None of Urquidy, Garcia, or Javier have ever pitched 170 IP in the regular season. They are probably better going 25-28 starts. Brown hasn't pitched 130 IP. We've seen Lance exceed 130 once and he then missed most of the next year. So I'm thinking 20-22 starts each. Given those limitations, even with Framber being a horse, working 6 starters into the mix, skipping some guys as necessary to manage workload, seems to be the way. Or we could be the Dodgers and make up injuries over the course of the season to reduce innings.
Yes I agree he is but I think he has the potential to be as good if not better. I'm super excited about javier but I think he has to show if he can it do it consistently over a season now that he will be given a chance Valdez is the most proven commodity and your perfect ace Mcculers has been an ace and I think was better than valdez before he got hurt so I am excited to see how he bounces back in his first full season back. It's exciting that he starts as our number 3.
My projected # of starts: Valdez - 32 Javier - 30 Garcia - 29 McCullers - 24 Urquidy - 23 Brown - 17 Other - 7 Who gets the "Other" starts? A prospect who cracks the 26 or a free agent we have yet to sign or a trade just before the deadline?

Please warn me next time. The amount of time I spent watching that video I could have gotten so much more done. Sharpened a pencil. Opened an email. Something.
umm. Jason Castro batting SIXTH? And now we are talking about uncle Mike being 6th. Maybe even 7th. I think I like 2023 better than 2013.
Let's see if Whitley can show that he can get minor league hitters out first. Last yr he gave up 29 ER in 40 IP.
