it wasn't a cultural awareness threshold, it was an "intel awareness gap":

Pentagon says it had an ‘awareness gap’ that led to failure to detect 3 Chinese balloons under Trump

I think it was because this balloon was so visible. The other incidences it sounds like the balloons weren’t seen by the public.

    Trying what?

it’s obvious that many saw the balloon whereas most didn’t see the previous balloons. We didn’t even know that there were previous balloons until just a few days ago. That would explain why this one was far more of an issue.

Event companies can control over a 1000 drones for a light show these days. I wonder why the military couldn't use drones to tow this down intact?

Russian military..... followed closely by Russian leadership...

Russia needs soldiers that are not disable, malnourished and under 40.... you could probably wrangle a visa there if you are interested.

Maybe we can nuke hurricanes before they hit land after all, then?

I'm not sure...maybe because of elevation? It was around 50-60,000 feet when it was shot down, right? Just did a quick google search and saw that the highest a drone can fly is around 33,000 feet.

if "most" didn't see the previous balloons, that implies "some" did, yet, in the very next sentence, you acknowledge "we didn't even know" they were there.

you're trying to have it both ways, and implicate Trump, even tho the Biden intel apparatus has stated Trump was never told about previous "anomalies", because no one knew what they were.

I'm very critical of Trump but I'm not trying to implicate him or blame him for the previous balloons. I'm stating why they weren't issues. Obviously someone saw the previous balloons, visibly or on radar, otherwise there wouldn't be a record of them. The public (us) did not see them. My own guess is that whoever saw them previously didn't think they were enough of a threat to relay up the chain of the command.

Im not really equipped to verify any of this, so take with a massive grain of salt, but intriguing nonetheless.

    Edit:
She has a tweet with the same claim, so it has to be true!

The PLA isn't a military like the US or other countries but acts as socialist insititution itself owning many businesses. Many of them aren't directly tied to the military such as manufacturing Karaoke machines. Much of them also have dual military and civilian use. This "institute" probably falls under that and it wouldn't surprise me if they do manufacture civilian weather balloons also.

in and of itself I don't think proves the nature of the balloon. I think the greater proof is the balloon itself. It was very sophisticated with a lot of sensors and it's own solar power source. That seems pretty extensive for just a weather balloon.
