Cam Thomas has gotten his chance with kyrie gone and boy is he answering. Hard to believe jalen green was selected in the same draft 25 spots higher than him. Kid was born in japan, and seems to have a very reserved personality.

This is not normal for a bench player who has not gotten much playing time to be scoring 40 point games in 3 straight games againist not that bad of competition. In the clippers game where he had 47 both kawhi and pg played and tonight againist the suns both booker and cp3 played.

what do you think, is this a flash in the pan, or is cam thomas's ceiling higher than we orginally thought

I always grade picks not by what you got and where but what you got relative to what you could have gotten there.

After we selected Josh in the 2021 draft I've always compared him to a couple of players selected right after him, Bones Hyland and Cam Thomas.
Quentin Grimes was also selected right after but I always saw his upside as limited.

Bones has flashed more so far but the player I really wanted on draft night was Cam Thomas.
Well now that Kyrie's gone he has absolutely blown up!
And Josh hasn't shown much improvement.

Stone's drafting prowess looking more and more suspect as time goes by!

Cam Thomas is definitely hot right now. Can he sustain it?

Thing is he's ALWAYS been a walking bucket.
    Great scorer in HS.
Came in at LSU and put up 27 in his 1st game.
Led the nation in freshman scoring at over 23 a game and declared for the draft.
Like I say I follow him and Bones against Jaygup.
He's had sparse action his 1st 2 years but every once in awhile he'll get some decent pt and "pop".

But he's always had scoring ability, he's just getting a chance to show it.
The selling point of Josh over him was Josh was supposed to become a 2-way player and Cam's just a scorer.
Well 2 years later and Josh is still really inconsistent on offense and I haven't seen any great defense either.

Still early but I don't think it's an anomaly with Cam.
I thinks his floor will be a good 15pt bench scorer and his ceiling.........well no need to speak of that!
    He's showing it!

Cam Thomas has always been able to score…did it in high school and as a freshman in college. If he gets minutes, he gets buckets. Kind of like Isiah Thomas on the Celtics before he was hurt.

The other parts of Thomas’ game is the problem.

Jalen, so let’s stop with this lol. It is upsetting bc I wanted him in the draft, but we took JC. It’s just so stupid!! Both of them are scorers and it was clear in college that Cam was on another level. Passed on a few guys that are the same archetype as JC, but are way better. Cam, Bones, or Grimes should’ve been a rocket

3 good games in a row (from a scoring standpoint at least).

Has Jalen had 3 good games in a row yet? My memory isn't the best with all the alcohol watching the Rockets causes me to do - but I'd be confident in saying that's a resounding no.

    What a low bar.

Why would anyone be caught up with dreaming of having drafted both Jalen and Cam? That seems like a disastrous pairing to develop those guys at the same time.

If you are going to retro dream why not dream/complain we didn’t draft Mobley and Cam instead of Jalen and JC?

Jalen just aint strong enough. Look at lot of the huge scoring explosions this season. It's usually a stronger player getting no resistance under the basket with 3s thrown in. A lot will use their strength to keep the defender behind them and then a floater or pull up close and use the glass. I'm not even talking about using speed via first step off dribble that Jalen uses tons of energy on, they are slowing their dribble and keeping it tight and sort of guiding the defender with their off hand while protecting the ball-something Oscar Robertson used to always do.
Throw in some 3pt bombs that go in and you got an easy 40 today. Jalen tries to force his 3 to get him going or he just can't finish through initial contact or makes it much harder for himself to finish(tries to get too fancy). Just look at Jalens career high night, he did exactly what the highest scoring players are taking advantage of and 3s were falling. He even made some too hard for himself in that game that went in, but if he can get some strength to get himself in position, under and around the basket is easy money to get literally half of your points on high efficiency and you can get an easy 20 from 3s and fts on a hot shooting night.
I mean LeBron literally just passed the all time scoring record by scoring the vast majority of his points under the basket with bully ball and some 3s and ft's thrown in. He actually has really poor %'s outside of under the basket. Make the game easier. It was always Kobe's issue too. Forcing it with circus shots instead of letting the game come to him. That's why his advanced stats and efficiency look bad when you compare him to top 20 players of all time. Of course, circus shots going is why people love his game so much too. I don't want Jalen to rely on that, because he aint going to outwork Kobe to be as good as Kobe was with that detrimental type of game. He can get stronger the way Kobe did and the points are going to come in bunches.

I believe Kobe talked about how his airballs against the Jazz weren't the catalyst for him to become a clutch player. He said he knew he was always clutch, and those shots were perfectly in line and looked good when leaving his hand, but fell short. He was smart enough to recognize those shots went in in short seasons in high school. The NBA grind was longer and he didn't have the strength and conditioning at that point in the season for those shots to go in so that's when he started to weight train during the season and harder as the season went on to compared to just weight training in the summer a lot of players do to avoid shooting fatigue. Jalen is 2 days away from turning 21 years old. He's a still a tooth pick compared to Kobe at 21. Hell, maybe Jalen and Bari are both super hard at work with weight training through the season and they just aren't strong enough to shoot through the muscle fatigue and soreness right now? I just hope both get serious about developing their bodies.
