All you dummies saying he's reading off a script... seriously, you guys, haven't you ever seen an NBA post-game presser before? They always keep glancing down at the stat sheet they're provided as they answer the questions. This is nothing new, it happens all the time.

As for it sounding fake, this is the ultimate nice guy trying to come off as a disciplinarian -- so of course it sounds fake. Silas may be upset, but he's never a hardass. That's probably his biggest failing as a coach.

You may be right. But why did he need to look at a stat sheet to rant about players' effort? I don't believe he had a script either. (If he did, it would be the most embarrassing thing for a coach.) It does look very strange when a person is making an angry speech while constantly looking down. It's as if he doesn't want to make eye contact with his audience.

You don't have to be an old school hard-ass to simply sit players down who don't give effort on D. I have read this on here in the past. That the boomers and geezers just don't get it. Steve Kerr isn't a screamer. But he will bench anyone that doesn't bring it defensively each night. Udoka wasn't screaming at Boston players last year. He gave them an ultimatum. Either play his brand of defense or sit. This whole notion that you have to be "nice" in this era is overblown IMO.

If players refuse to get back on D, or close out to shooters, sit their asses down until they get the message. It's that simple. Silas and Stone have refused to do this to thier favorites. Accountability has nothing to do with screaming or acting a fool as a head coach. It simply means setting a standard without compromise. And holding EVERYONE on the team to that standard.

This started with Stone the puppet master, and ends with Silas. If they can't get this than they both need to go before this gets anymore embarrassing next season.

Watching him spin out is just nonsense....
if this is 'dog n pony show' to justify our crappy record as we tank - whatever...
but if this is legit... if this is him spinnin out due to lack of effort - then he's a joke...
As the coach its YOUR JOB to get that effort - that is like your PRIMARY JOB - getting the most outta the players at your disposal...
If they aint puttin in the effort... who's fault is that? If thats on the player who's sitting there on the bench with his guaranteed contract and isnt willing to put in the effort - then it is what it is... and thats on him...
but if the dude(s) ON THE COURT not giving the effort... who's fault is that?
The dude hasnt set standards... he doesnt hold guys accountable... he wants to play favs and be all personal n buddy buddy - as opposed to the authoritarian....
    he built this mess....
and now he wants to cry about it?
    lol...

this just seems akin to if my wife was complaining about the infrequency of sex... lol

I do believe the Rockets hired Silas to teach and develop these young men before they become serious contenders and have a more balanced and experienced roster, which I believe is targeted for 23-24 as they have another lottery pick and cap room for a couple of free agents.

They likely do not see him as a long term solution but a placeholder. This team Isn’t built to win with a roster lacking veteran leadership and guidance and an experiment at pg. Silas preaches love, character, and accountability. He has created a culture of acceptance and patience and there haven’t been reports of players defying or disloyal to him. The losing wears on everyone in the organization. We don’t know if players have tuned him out. If they have then that speaks to their character and professionalism. I do feel bad for him if he was promised something other than being a placeholder. He is in a difficult position, which isn’t helped by angry impatient and rabid fans calling for his job. He deserves better if not here then somewhere else.

So who's playing hard on defense? Tari, Garuba, Fernando? Not talking about understanding assignments and concepts which is where the teaching comes in, but just playing hard? Giving a damn? This team as assembled today just doesnt compliment one another towards winning basketball and unless the desire changes it wouldnt matter who was the coach - just bench everybody is the answer?

He has already been handling the on court and in practice discipline.

Offer the job to Abdelfattah or get someone completely outside the organization.

As it is, the only thing really "special" in the coaching and front office is the assistant GM, whom will likely go to Philly at the end of his contract anyway.

See what Abdelfattah can do if you stay internal.... otherwise find new voices..... the only thing worse than the product on the court is the people coaching and making managerial decisions.

It won't happen but Stone and everyone other than the analytics department should be let go. There is no real positive culture or anything that this group does well.

Yes, it is his fault when it is younger players. He controls playing time and younger players are sponges capable of improvement. The reality is that the effort this season is worse than last season. Silas is learning that you cannot excuse all mistakes with young players for nearly two seasons, and then suddenly say it isn't okay. Habits are established early on.

Yeah, if a parent does a poor job of parenting then they are responsible for a lot of the issues.

Coach Lucas spanks them with a paddle & supplies the team with drugs. He's like Denzel Washington on American Gangster.

Okay there is a lot here.

First, as far as the pieces not fitting, that is on the GM who should have looked at how drafting particular players would pigeon hole you later on. For example, he drafted Jalen Green knowing he was a poor defender that lacked size. So, he knew that Green would have to have a really good defender play next to him in the backcourt and he knew that it would have to be a point guard with size so that Green could guard the other teams point guard. He also knew that in the playoffs, players with physical limitations defensively are picked on hard. When he took Sengun, he knew that there were some issues with foot speed. Now, drafting Sengun is fine, his defensive limitations can be covered by long threes and fives. However, taking two players like that off the bat? Really poor team planning and construction by Stone. He tried to address that some by taking Eason, but that is a bandage on a serious issue.

As far as teaching goes, Silas has two very good veteran assistants in Lucas and Hollins. It is also true that Hollins is an exceptional defensive coach, but he is also old and burnt out. Silas has a real knack for passing responsibility to other people.... from coaches, to calling his players "them" when things go badly.

Also the lack of hustle, desire is a result of what Silas and Stone have allowed the last two seasons. These are young and impressionable players, being lead by an idiot (KPJ) that shouldn't have any leadership responsibilities at all. When former players (KMart), current players (Gordon) and people around the game (Sheridan/Lowe/ many many others) say the Rockets are a joke organization.... believe them.

Would you buy insurance from someone that awkward and lacking confidence? I wouldn't.

Follow-up question by a real, indepent journalist would be - but aren't you ultimately responsible for how they play? How do you see your personal accountability? Have you thought about resigning?

Are you saying the child has no accountability? No responsibility on how they conduct themselves? And are you saying somehow Silas controls the legs and arms and minds of these players to guard back door cuts or switch 100% of the time. A lot of fans clamored and yelled about the Rockets players not having accountability but now all of a sudden don’t want players to have accountability?
