Ja's bio say he's grew up in a small quiet town of Dalzell South Carolina. "Dalzell is a suburb in the Sumter Metro Area and in the Sumter County. It has a population of 3,086 and a population density of 644, which is 86% above the national average." link
He needs to get out in front of whatever this was and dial it back. He hasn't crossed a line yet that he can't recover from.
A suburb just means it's outside of the city. I wouldn't be quick to assume all suburbs are for people who are well off. There's plenty of grimey areas outside of the inner city where people are struggling. But, I was fine with Ja being the skinny kid who sometimes puffs his chest out. That chip on his shoulder is what got him where he is like Beverley or AI or whoever. I do however think he's an idiot for pointing guns at people for no reason. If anything, being form a lightly populated area may have hurt him in this area. If he was from a bigger city he would have had at least one OG telling him to focus on basketball and stay away from the foolishness. That Shannon Sharp clip was spot on.
Was reading some of Grizz fans' comments recently. Confirms with what I've been reading. Dude is from the 'burbs. I mean.... it's not a bad thing; growing up with nice opportunities; private schools and all.
How did I know I before listening to The Ringer Mismatch podcast that Chris Vernon was going to say that most of the story was made up and excuse Morant and put all the blame on his friend? Anyone not on the Grizzlies and he'll jump all over them. As big a homer as Bill Simmons is to the Celtics.
Less and less NBA players are from the "hood." That's what it seems like to me. I know from family that the kids who make it to the best leagues in little league baseball receive coaching from private trainers. I have cousins spending hundreds a month on all kinds of specialized coaching. I have noticed private sessions in basketball gyms between coaches and young kids. So I wonder if the same is happening in basketball leading to less poor kids making it big.
And I never understood "real" gangsters with no money looking down on someone making 200 million playing basketball
The use of “iann” and “iono” is the latest “thing” that triggers that feeling I get from time to time that I am really starting to get old.
