This is not going to end well for the Mavs.

Hopefully long enough to make splash in playoffs, but did you see reports that harden and Irving clashed causing the implosion that led to this trade?
I kinda hope that Cuban reneges on full max promise and Kyrie goes full Kanye on the world. Go full circle for best drama ever. Luka to Rockets afterwards.

makes a lot more sense for them, didn't know their cap situation.

I guess they see it as a rental, if it works, they can try to extend and if not, see ya, and go after another big name.

I like this move for the NBA. The Nets win this trade. This is something like reason 123 that the Mavs lose Doncic to the Lakers when he's an UFA.

Fairly low risk, potential high reward trade for Kyrie.

Luka gets worn down as the lone ballhandler, much like Harden did for us. He's missed Brunson, and even that wasn't enough last season in the playoffs. Dallas could be a really tough out in the playoffs going forward (if they can play any defense).

Mavs lose Dinwiddie (30) with one more year on his deal and DFS (30) with one more year on his deal.
Irving's a huge upgrade to Dinwiddie, and the Mavs don't lose that much this season with (rental) Markieff Morris vs DFS.
Cuban gets a ton of cap space next year if Luka/Kyrie doesn't work and he passes on re-signing Kyrie.

If it works, he gets a top-20 talent at a firesale price. If it doesn't work, he moves on and signs someone else with the cap space.
Further, the bullshit that Irving ran into with the vax mandate in NYC wouldn't have happened and won't happen in Dallas.

Good gamble by Cuban. Brooklyn didn't get much of anything back, and have to hope that Dallas sucks in 2029 when they get an unprotected FRP...

I would have thought they might get a better deal from LAC, LAL or PHX.

I was half expecting PHX to be the dark horse and sweep in with a Kyrie/CP3 + spare parts trade. CP3/Durant for a couple of seasons would have been interesting to watch.

Mavs needs C and they got a guard.

JaVale didn't work, Powell is not good enough, Cwood has no defence and they got another guard.

We know the tune in play-offs:
    "Bye-bye happiness,..."

nobody ever wants to go to Dallas

Mavs with max cap space if Kyrie walks so they can sign D’angelo Russell

The duo of Kyrie and Doncic makes more on-court sense than Kyrie and Durant. It's just the surrounding pieces that will fail them in a Finals run. I don't know if they have any more trade chips to get front court defense and rebounding.

Kyrie for Dinwiddie and Smith is a huge win for Dallas. Kyrie wants the max so he will be in his best behavior. Luka has never had this level of offensive talent next him. Dallas could win the West.

    Yea, 2nd round at best.

The defense won't be there and the depth won't be there. You NEED defense and depth to go far in the playoffs. I can't see them beating the Nuggets or Memphis, hell, I feel like they are a toss up against most teams. Like right now I'd pick the Warriors and Clippers in a 7 game series.

They can beat on some of these unproven teams though, the Kings, Jazz, etc. Suns are a complete wildcard right now since I'm sure they will be making a move this week.
