    Zero Chance. He’s getting 10/500 or 12/600
If he has a great year again and someone gets stupid.

And that's why we have a chance to sustain success.

I too was surprised that Rolen got into the HoF.

    Third Base JAWS Leaders

Rolen's numbers appear to just cross the threshold.

How much is a 10 WAR player worth? 500M / 10 years might be a little light, which is completely insane. The NYM's owner is completely insane, so that might be a match made in heaven.

Rolen was a good player but I never thought of him as HOF material --like not one time. His career WAR is 70.1. Buddy Bell's career WAR is 66.4. a good (not great) season is a WAR of between 3-4. So Buddy Bell was 1 good season from the HOF???

Defensive metrics from Buddy Bells era are basically non existent, so we don't really know how good a fielder he was. But if he played in the modern era and put up elite defensive numbers like his stats suggest, then yes he very well may have made it in, or at least came close. Buddy Bell has extremely good defensive numbers propping up his WAR, which is why it's such a popular stat nowadays. It's a solid snapshot of a players whole value instead of just looking at a guys offensive numbers as the entirety of their worth.

Aside from shortstops and catchers, defense until recently was almost entirely ignored when measuring a players HOF viability.

    Ha! Buddy Bell? Scott Rolen?

    Hall of good players

I guess they are preparing the plaque for Paul Sorrento now.

3 years $150M might be light for a 10 WAR player. But not 10 years/$500M. The longer the contract, the lower the AAV should be due to RISK of injury, performance or both.

    Why would that be stupid?

Top 5 hitter, top 10 pitcher.

28 million for being an everyday hitter
22 million for being 75% regular starting pitcher

That my friend is what we call in the industry a "steal".

I think we should aggressively go after him next off season. He replaces Tucker and the 30+ million he'll be seeking.

The best argument that he will get $500M is several owners are insane. But interestingly enough, not WINNING OWNERS.

I think Ohtani can be a great hitter in this league for a long time. Ohtani the pitcher came in very good and then picked up 2 mph last season and became an elite pitcher. If that sticks for one more season he probably wins the MVP next year.

I wouldn’t want to pay for that performance though as I think it’s much more likely that he either gets hurt or simply regresses. I think the Judge contract may end up being ultimately a better value. Still, he’s probably going to land somewhere like the Dodgers to make them that much better.

Defensive skills were probably the tie breaker for some and possibly many of these voters.

So elite hitters and pitchers are now going in the 40+ million range. Longer contracts are still in the low to mid 30s range.

How is splitting 25 million between his pitching and hitting skills either "insane" or " stupid" as you people are saying?
