Yes, we are overreacting to an IG story. Yes, this is a futile season and he isn't really playing well and he already developed bad habits, giving up too early.
People want Shane Battier level of smarts and commitment, they are not getting that. When it comes to star player, Duncan, Dirk, Giannis types. That is real rare.
I don't care about the IG story at all, I don't even care that Jalen was one again terrible on offense, I care about how detrimental the worst defensive player in the league is to the overall team defense and I care that he's never held accountable for terrible performance. It's not just bad for everyone on the team, it's actively detrimental to his own future development. Force Green to earn his minutes and you'll get more out of him. Keep letting him do whatever the hell he wants whenever he wants and that ceiling is going to start to fall fast.
He make think he's a star but he's far from it. That label is earned by results and his results are more like he's a chucking bust. I think his only hope is a new coach that will teach him what's expected and if he doesn't do it then he get's benched. You can't have him crapping the bed 9/10 times without the whole team thinking it's ok. I'm not giving up on him until I see him under a new coach but I've grown very tired of watching him
Was tonight a game of bad habits or just poor shooting from missing time? This is what gets my jimmies rustled. Green actually played a smarter game last night than Sengun(4 to 1 assists to turnover) vs (1 to 3 assists to turnovers). His jumper was just really off. Needs to recalibrate. His problem wasn't playing dumb last night. For them minutes he played as the ball handler he was creating decent offense with good looks generated for teammates. His defense was still a problem last night. So his shooting and defense are still major concerns. But his ability to handle the ball and generate looks for teammates is definitely an improvement.
KPJ played almost all the PG minutes and practically the entire roster is shooting poorly. He's not the reason why Green is so insanely up and down, but he (along wit Silas and Nix) is at least a small part of why everyone is struggling. KPJ is doing his best but we have discovered he's a guy who needs years rather than months to learn basic PG fundamentals and that's a bottleneck. When every play runs through you and you are responsible for feeding everyone, yes if you are bad at that it will affect everyone. It's true that KPJ and our alleged vet mentor Gordon don't care about defense, but that's where a star player should differentiate themselves. Role players and fringe players will take the lead from Gordon and KPJ and decide that they don't have to care about defense either. A true star player would look at this situation and decide to play the best defense of their lives knowing they can inspire Gordon and KPJ to change their approach. Green, however, is responsible for his own performance in general and in control of most of it. If he's copying KPJ, that's his own fault. If he's taking bad shots, that's his own fault. If he's not playing good defense, that's his own fault.
Would rather he hire Dirk's old shooting coach and disappear for an offseason. Until that shot comes around, he is just a 6 man level player. He is 20, so no need to be writing permanent narratives right now.
Nah. A year - or actually, 4-5 months - in a college program doesn't really mean **** in the grand scheme. He needs to be a better pro. Superstar mindset in terms of style of play but doesn't have superstar abilities to execute. This is still surprising and upsetting to him after 1.5 seasons.
yall will be soon on his bandwagon again as soon as he stumbles into a lucky streak of decent 3pt shooting for a few games... this is why tanking never works...top picks value is just a mirage... its a road of taking shortcuts and avoiding hard work and effort...and theres no substitute for winning! top picks arent any more talented than 20 something picks..its justs that the former get more chances and support so more of them finally makes it in the end...like andrew wiggins eg
I think you're qusai blaming KPJ. Players are who they are. Green never played defense in High school nor the G-League. I don't dislike Green, I just dont see the fire on that side of the ball. I've never seen him get on the floor for a ball either, it's like he's immune to hustle. The only way to get a player to see his WEAKNESSES is to take away PLAYING TIME and sit him on the bench the moment you see him not being ACCOUNTABLE.....ALL OF THAT CO.ES FROM THE HEAD COACH! The players play hard for Lucas but not for Silas.
No, I'm partially blaming KPJ while saying that most of it is in Green's control. I hope you're not sensitive to blame. I don't agree that benching him is the only way, but I understand that your view is a long held traditional one. I don't believe in Lucas. I think he would be a lesser Thibs, who himself is a mediocre coach. After some time the players bodies would break down and they would stop responding to him barking at them and I don't think he has any tools after that. I think he's in the perfect role, would keep him as an assistant forever.
I can get behind this 100% but we have to reign in KPJ at the same time. Porter is the better player right now on both sides of the ball but not by much. I still hold that the potential of Green is higher. what I really want to see is Josh Christopher getting 25 minutes game. I think there is a very interesting two way player inside there.
20 year old player is 20. Not physically developed. Not even close. Elite physical traits. He is struggling. We’re invested. We need to ride out 1.5 more years and a coaching change before, jumping to some of the conclusions, that many of y’all are. it is, however, entirely fair to want to allocate some of his shots in minutes to other people while holding him accountable, I get it.
Accountability is good for all young players without exception. I think Josh Christopher will get more minutes once Gordon is gone. I see him as an of the bench energy chucker who will have his hot games and his cold, but if he embraces the role and works on his game, he could be a part of the team for a long time. As to the potential of Green vs the potential of KPJ, it's a hard question to answer. KPJ is a million miles ahead of Green right now overall... but with Green it's like discussing the potential of a massive chunk of marble. It could be chiseled into the finest sculpture ever, it could be dropped and shattered... or a million things in between you just never know. It's why I don't like picking the super raw super athlete with very little skill. I want a more sure thing, not a bag of magic beans
I agree with the assessment in this post about JG. I always watch him in defense and he is always lost which, in many ways, distorts the whole defense. The early dismantling of the Rockets last night was not a coincidence. JG was often out of position so every one of his teammates tried to but could not compensate for the offensive adjustments made by the Thunder's coaches and players. The Rockets' defense was disorganized and directionless mainly because of one player who is not helping the total effort. I urge everyone to just watch JG on defense and you will see why the Rockets are this bad overall. I mainly blame the coaches for the dereliction of their duty to teach JG the fundamentals of defense. They should have JG and also the other players have daily defensive drills and daily sessions on defense until they have internalized them. Sengun has a lot of flaws still in his defense but he is hardly the biggest reason for the Rockets' atrocious defense. I have mentioned the word "defense" over and over in this post because it needs to be pointed out as the main reason for the Rockets' performance. But more than the players, the onus is on the coaches to constantly hammer this in the head of these very young and inexperienced players.
