    Well, I didn't specify the order. :)

I think McCarthy's approach is appropriate. Bob Menendez was indicted for bribery in 2015. He got a sternly worded letter from the Ethics committee, was ordered to give the gifts back, and he temporarily recused himself from at least one committee. But the jury was hung and they didn't manage to re-try. So he never got booted. He was re-elected as senator in 2018 after all this corruption stuff. So this seems to be how it goes - if you can't get a conviction, let the people decide.

Mendez is different. He did not run on lies about himself. He was tried and it resulted in a hung jury. When he was re-elected the voters knew all of this and still voted for him which is our right. Santos never would have been elected had people known the truth about him during the campaign.

So if Santos beats the rap in court, runs again in 2 years and wins, then the two cases will be the same.

Yep. Except Congress does have power to remove him and they should. The people did not vote for who they believed they were voting for. This was not a case of a little white lie. If they decide to remove him, he runs again, and wins. So be it

They also had the power to remove Menendez and they should have done it because he was credibly accused (and indicted) for official corruption, but he wasn't removed. I'm not trying to minimize what Santos has done. But official corruption is at least as bad. Menendez was given enough rope (2 years) to be able to test whether the voters thought what he'd done was acceptable or not.

You're asking to take away a representative without first a conviction or an indictment or an election. It can be done, the House can expel an unacceptable member, but it has not been the practice with previous crooks in Congress. In the modern era, only 2 congressmen have been expelled, Jim Traficant and Michael Myers, and that was after they were convicted of bribery (in a couple other cases, congressmen resigned after the Ethics Committee recommended their expulsion even without a conviction in hand). It's not that I think he shouldn't be expelled, or that his expulsion should wait for his conviction (which may or may not ever come), but that we should have consistent treatment of Reps and Senators accused of wrongdoing. And the treatment so far has been to respect the will of the voters until they are more or less forced to expel the member. If I had my druthers, Menendez and Santos would both be gone. I think proof beyond reasonable doubt is too high a standard for removing a member's privilege to serve (which is what you get when you await a conviction) and that even the appearance of impropriety should have repercussions. But it strikes me as being capricious to say lying to voters must be addressed severely and right away and somehow trading political favors for money should somehow get the benefit of the doubt.

I absolutely love the way the press is hounding his a$$ and the way he has to scurry around............this man has no shame at all, but he`s there with his fellow nut jobs MTG and Gaetz so birds of a feather. The one guy I do feel sorry for is the one nicely dressed portly fella who has to always be by his side when he`s walking........not sure if Hes a staffer or guard or what. I have a feeling when they examine his campaign finances, the proverbial pooh will be flung , he didn't go back and change his filings for nothing. I am 99.9% sure most of his colleagues, are rolling there eyes anytime he opens his mouth, he should sit down and STFU

I will say it again the jokes are good but don’t really matter until there is actual accountability.

I have a friend that’s a pathological liar. He also ran for office a few years ago. Didn’t win though.

Are we ignoring the fact that Santos is also plagiarizing Eddie Murphy?
