JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 Star Keanu Reeves Confirms Ana de Armas' BALLERINA Takes Place Before That Movie

There's a lot of intrigue surrounding how Ballerina fits into the wider John Wick timeline, and Keanu Reeves has set the record straight ahead of next year's Chapter 4 being released. Check it out...

The John Wick franchise has rapidly become one of Lionsgate's most successful properties, so it's really not too shocking that the studio is now looking to expand on it in any way it can.

For example, we know that a TV series, The Continental, is coming to Peacock and Prime Video, with a 1970s setting and the focus on Ian McShane's Winston (Colin Woodell will take over the role for the prequel). That's not all, however, as we're also getting a John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum spin-off with Ballerina.

That movie will see No Time to Die star Ana de Armas play the titular ballet dancer-turned-assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Len Wiseman (Underworld) is directing, and there's obviously a huge amount of excitement to see what de Armas brings to the table as what we're sure will be a badass new female action hero.

With the movie confirmed to arrive in theaters following next year's John Wick: Chapter 4, there's been a lot of speculation about when in the franchise's timeline it takes place.

Lionsgate is trying hard to make us believe that the fourth movie could mark the end for Reeves' Baba Yaga (which seems unlikely with tentative plans in place for a fifth instalment), but with the actor confirmed for Ballerina, the threat of his story ending has been somewhat lessened. Now, though, Reeves has confirmed that Ballerina takes place before Chapter 4.

"So, the film Ballerina that Ana de Armas stars in being directed by Len Wiseman has already started filming, and it takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4," he revealed (via ActioNewz.com) at this past weekend's CCXP event.

De Armas takes over from Unity Phelan as Rooney, and while Wiseman directs, the screenplay was penned by Shay Hatten and Emerald Fennell. We're certainly curious to see how the spin-off takes shape, anyway, and with cameras now rolling, we should have more to share soon.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to arrive in theaters on March 24. Ballerina remains undated.

I am over the Wick movies, the last one was kinda boring.

The 1st 2 had more depth, and now it just seems to be about how outlandish the fights are and the kills.

Eye candy aside, when it comes to Wick type of films, I'm kinda picky. I expect my leads to sell action choreo.

Keanu trained a lot for his original role. Maybe she can be a physical actress. I just don't want the action scenes end up being too many quick cuts to hide the mistakes. Or an entire set piece, where a stunt woman fights in her place under a biker helmet or a bad wig.

That Netflix Monroe movie got bad reviews; she lost some of her Hollywood shine. It's likely this deal was inked before that film was released. Wick is a popcorn action movie; but it's one of the better ones currently running. Don't want it box office bomb in it's spinoff.

Almost sounds like Black Widow's Backstory
    or that movie Red Sparrow-ish

D*mn - It has to SUCK that your character for a film . .. . .. GETS THEIR OWN FILM based on your performance
Then they replace you [Unity Phelan)

I know what you mean. Natalie Portman and some chicks have no business being in a fight scene. Some women women are killing it these days when it comes to action though. I watched a 60+ year old Alison Janney beat the **** out of dudes in a Netflix movie the other night, not even realizing it was her, and it was very believable.

Armas was great in the last Bond flick, so I know she can do action. Her role was actually one of the highlights of the film. (Although it did not advance the plot one iota.) As for her Monroe movie, I couldn't care less about the reviews. It was pretty bad, but she was fabulous in every respect.

See now you made me look it up. :D

It's less 3 min; but kinda powerful since at the time, the audience weren't sure at first where they were going to take the tension.

Looks like most of it was her. There's a couple quick shots; where face was at odd angles. The part where she gets slammed to the table is likely a double. That's for insurance and risks aversion. Since if the lead is seriously injured; they can't continue with the shoot. Either way, the scene is stitched well together.

I think they just need to commit and not be worried about a few bruises and broken bones.

Nothing makes me snooze in an action flick than constant 3 second jump cuts in a fighting sequence. Actors and actresses get paid big bucks but won't commit to six months of training to get their moves up to snuff?

**** insurance liabilities. Do it for the art.

Yep. That was really well done. She even looks good in the rehearsal video I found..

Props to her... I'm pretty sure I would hurt myself or look like a complete fool if I tried it.
