:D yeah WWII wasn't received well. The no 3rd sequel also means Gadot is likely done as wonder woman.

Other things getting cut right now includes Cavil and Affleck's cameo in upcoming ones like Flashpoint.

The re-do likely mean most of the Snyder verse cast are not coming back. That might even include the popular Mamoa (Aquaman).

There's a bit of land grab between Dwayne Johnson and Gunn. James Gunn is likely to win out. This means re-do is likely to eventually phase out Levi/Shazam and Black Adam.

Cavil has online fan support, but he's reportedly a bit of a diva backstage and for the amount of money he was asking WB wasn't budging. Cavil's agent is Rock's ex wife, so we likely will get a different Superman.

Margo Robbie is technically a Snyder cast. But since Gunn directed the suicide squad sequel... It's a maybe... It's possible a new Harley too.

Reeve's Batman is in its own isolated corner right now.

DC Studios co-chairpeople and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have unveiled their initial slate of new projects, explaining how a new slate of movies and TV shows will offer a unified approach to DC storytelling.

This consists of ten projects as part of what is dubbed ‘Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters’ (and not the entirety of Chapter 1 according to Gunn), it will introduce audiences to a completely unified approach to DC movies and shows.

Almost everything being released will take place in the same universe and will mark a cohesive piece of storytelling. Gunn says: “We are going to promise that everything from our first project forward is going to be unified. No one was minding the mint, they were just giving away IP like they were party favors to any creators that smiled at them.”

In terms of casting changes, Gunn says: “Some of the characters that we’re doing we’re changing out – this is a multiverse – some of the characters we’re using the same actors”. Any project that’s animated could also get a live-action version and thus they are casting with that in mind.

The ten projects are as follows. Release dates included where revealed:

    Creature Commandos (Animated Series)
An animated TV series already in production based on the comic property of the same name which brings vampires, werewolves and zombies into the DC universe. Weasel from “The Suicide Squad” as well as Rick Flagg Sr. are involved. Gunn wrote all seven episodes himself.

    Waller (Live-Action TV Series)
Viola Davis will reprise her role as Amanda Waller in a TV series focused on her character. The series will fall ‘in between’ the first and second seasons of “Peacemaker” with the second season of “Peacemaker” delayed. Chrystal Henry (“Watchmen”) and Jeremy Carver (“Doom Patrol”) are writing.

    Superman Legacy (Movie – July 11th 2025)
Safran says “this is really the start of the DCU” and is currently being penned by Gunn. He says: “It is not an origin story, it focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing… He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.”

    Lanterns (Live-Action TV Series)
Replacing Greg Berlanti previous more “space opera” style series with Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine, this is being dubbed a huge HBO-quality TV event in the vein of “True Detective”. Safran says: “It’s terrestrial-based, it’s got two of our favorite Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, star[ring] in a ‘True Detective’-type mystery and it plays a really big role leading into the main story that we’re telling across our film and television.”

    The Authority (Movie)
Based on the Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch comic book this film will incorporate characters from DC’s Wildstorm imprint into the DCU.

    Paradise Lost (TV Series)
Gunn and Safran plan on building out the world of the Amazons with the TV series which will take place on Themiscyra before the birth of Diana and follows the political intrigue of an all-female society. Safran says: “It’s gonna be a “Game of Thrones”-ish story about Themiscyra… and about the political intrigue behind a society of all women.” Gunn adds: “What’s the origin of an island of all women? What are the beautiful truths and the ugly truths behind all of that, and what’s the scheming like between the different power players in that society?”

The Brave and the Bold (Movie)
Based on Grant Morrison’s Batman run, this will introduce the DCU’s Batman/Bruce Wayne and the Bat-family including Damian Wayne. Gunn dubs it a “strange father/son story” and it is separate from Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the Matt Reeves films (which will falls under the ‘Elseworlds’ category outside this continuity).

“This is the introduction of the DCU Batman, Bruce Wayne, and also introducing our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a b**** assassin murderer,” Gunn said of the film. Batman didn’t know Damian existed for the first 8-10 years of his life, and Gunn describes this as “a very strange father/son story” about the duo.

    Booster Gold (Live-Action TV Series)
Safran says it’s about a loser from the future who uses basic future technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero.”

    Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (Movie)
Based on Tom King’s comic book series, the film will introduce ‘a very different type’ of character. Gunn says: “In our [DCU] we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant vs. Supergirl who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life.”

    Swamp Thing (Movie)
The film investigates “the dark origins” of Swamp Thing and will reflect the tonal diversity of the new DC.

DC has so many good IP's this feels kind of underwhelming. or am I alone? should have done a full reboot to re-establish the big dawgs.

i will be watching all of this anyway though, lol

Just like Marvel, there will be lots of praising and criticizing, yet most everyone will be watching. Shame about Cavill though.

Just realized.... I don't really love Gunn or his movies, including GoTG. But I'd totally pay to see him write & direct Wildcats.

Looks like a nice shot gun (Gunn?) effect
I think alot of different things so everyone could have something
Feels Tonally closer to Marvel than Snyder
Though Shows like The Authority can be FULL ON SUPER SNYDER (was never a fan of the IP)

I will probably watch all of them but I honestly am not anticipating many
I hope the shows are above CW Levels (well latter CW - The Arrow and Initial Flash were pretty good)

at least theres' an actual plan now I guess

before it just seemed like they were doing a bunch of random sh*t and hoping it could coalesce into an actual DC Universe

DC was out there throwing pasta, peanut butter, cookies, unseasoned chicken breast, and cheese into the pot and hoping it turned out good

After some thought, I agree with @DreamShook. It feels underwhelming right now. Time will tell.

My expectations for Gunn wasn't high to begin with. Thought the announcement was OK, there wasn't that many thing he could of said to make people super excited; so given the circumstance, he did what he could.

There's a group of folks that I talk about DC on the regular, but outside that I found that most people just aren't super interested in DC. So even on CF, the DC chatter is not super high.

Thoughts on announcement and supplemental information.

    Creature Commandos (Animated Series) -
No one asked for this, this is more to satisfy Gunn's muse. Doesn't mean it can't be good, just that with Gunn writing the Superman movie plus steering the overall ship, I'm surprised he had/has time for this. Should rather focus on getting DC back on track and focus on repairing the DC trinity / JL 7. (a-tier characters).

    Waller
    (Live-Action TV Series)
Viola Davis has good will among the fans, she's kind of turned into the female Nick Fury. There's subset of DC fan base who wanted an entire reboot, but Gunn kept Viola. Likely some of his SSquad actors. Up in the air on Margot Robbie, while Robbie is 'famous', her other movies don't necessarily do that well in theatres. Personally I'd re-cast Harley.

    Superman Legacy (Movie – July 11th 2025)

This could be good. Back to basics focus Superman's original appeal; wholesome character and maybe the science stuff. There are enough 'anti-hero' / dark characters in DC, don't need to make Superman an edge-lord. Gunn should be smart enough to not write Superman super jokey-jokey like Guardians... at least i think he won't.

    Lanterns (Live-Action TV Series)

Costly budget (vfx) for a TV show. Might not pay off in TV ratings.
Normally I wouldn't care since fans benefit even if producers lose money, but with WarnerDiscovery is still under Zaslav and his tight budget.

    The Authority (Movie)

Personally speaking I would geek out seeing Wildstorm characters, but it's a business risk for sure. Those characters are not super well known. It's a risk and really depends on execution: the actor, director, VFX team..etc

    Paradise Lost (TV Series)

Wait and see on this one. Costume shows are expensive. TV ratings would matter. The game of throne comparison raised an eyebrow. The violence and sexual levels can't be turned up too high. It's possible they build up the new Wonder Woman here, if successful, that TV lead might get promoted to the movies.

The Brave and the Bold (Movie)

Storyline is decent in the comics. It's not a bad idea that this gets made. Some fan criticism is that in the movies verse; folks rather see Dick Grayson as Robin first (Chris O'Donnell don't count... srry), then move onto Damien. Feels like Gunn is skipping the building steps, because he personally liked Damian more.

In the Comics, like the batman/superman sons... Damian has been pushed as the current Robin. The older DC fans likely prefer Dick to properly get his movie role first then DC can move onto the Tim Drakes and Damian of the world.

Dick is still hands down the most popular Robin. Putting in Damian also this means Batman will be portrayed more of as a dad. For DC fans, most people have already been used to it. But I'm not sure about the masses, as they still might see him as batman by night and single billionaire by day (a la tony stark).
    Booster Gold (Live-Action TV Series)
Chris Pratt to play booster. Some people don't like Gunn's "nepotism" here, but honestly Pratt is actually famous and might actually say 'yes' to a DC project.

    Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (Movie)

The comic storyline they choose is actually well received. This also depends on execution, how well they can realize the story. Key is to keep Supergirl earnest, and less of a ditsy blonde teenager. Also, big budget needed, she travels through different worlds. Lot of vfx, movie has to do well to recoup the money. The reboot could mean Sasha Calle might be out since Gunn rebooted; and they might re-cast.

    Swamp Thing (Movie)

Swamp thing, again a show where his powers depends on lot of VFX which costs $$. The TV show from a few years ago was decent but it got terrible ratings. Since it's a movie, they'll get the budget, making the money back in theatre is also a risk.
    Batman (Reevs/Pattinson) / Joker -
Gunn glossed over this real quickly, but he stated these are one-offs and not considered cannon.

Lanterns is the main thing that caught my attention. I hope it builds excitement upon that IP. They ruined expectations with their A tier talent and crippled the potential of a good Justice League.

Supergirl is a wild card and would be nice if it shared no comparisons or themes with Captain Marvel

Ideally these series should follow the same quality controls of an HBO series rather than a rubber stamp from Max...

GL is my favorite DC character(s) and has a massively cool backstory and lore. It could be it's own media universe in itself.

Part of the reason I didn't get into DC comics was the amount of lore they build up over decades. You couldn't casually read a series and start from the middle.

I got into Lantern when Geoff Johns pulled off an excellent reboot of it in the early 2000s. Too bad he hasn't been able to translate it on the big screen.

I didn't think the first half of Lantern was bad (soft spot for Blake Lively), but the 2nd half fell apart with the generic alien invasion. It didn't help that the bad CG turned it into a cartoon with no buildup or hype for the Lantern Corps. Marvel had those insights and made the Nova Corps an afterthought in GoTG.

Thinking about it more, they should've kept with a simple landing by making Sinestro more charismatic and him learning the ring like Stark with his suit (don't remember how much they covered that in the movie but that's prob the issue). Ground the fx with that learning curve.

Assuming the visual arts director was the same, people might have tolerated the cheesy fx in the sequel if they liked the characters more.

I think the focus on origins and backstory and buildup is a bit of a mistake. Just because the MCU went that route and it worked doesn't mean that is the only option. X-Men jumped right into a team already together that were already up to speed on their skills. So did the Justice League animated series. So did Blade. You don't need to see how Green Lantern gets his ring or learns how to use it. When Green Lantern was introduced to an audience beyond comic fans it was either in Superfriends (for the old people) or modernly through the Justice League cartoon. They just had John Stewart fly in, make constructs to fight bad guys, and shoot lazer beams. Even children could figure out what he was and how his powers worked. They can focus on having a good movie without worrying about setting things up and explaining everything.

Was thinking about this last night . . . and would be amazing if they used the storyline with Batman and Damien . . .
but from Batman RIP or Batman Reborn . . . movie opens on Batman and Damien . . . but it isn't Bruce. So we'd get a look at Dick Grayson under the cowl, Damien, and pick up Bruce later in the story. I mean, the imagery they were showing wasn't Bruce in Gunn's intro. They'd have some time writing around some of the New52 and flashpoint stuff, but maybe that's why Gunn is excited to have Flashpoint as a reference. Heck . . . i'd even go out on a limb . . . Lanterns might be investigating random exposition and find evidence of Bruce in earth's past.

I liked the first. The second was peanut-crusted flyblown freshly-squeezed dogshit; I don't know what Patty Jenkins was thinking.

The announcements seem good to me. That Supergirl story could be great if done right. Most DC movies have been absolute dog **** but I could still be down for a resurrection - especially with Marvel no longer looking invincible.

    Marvel’s status is moot.

There’s a massive market still for comic book movies. Fans want DC movies that are up there in quality. I’m a Marvel fanboy and I want to see good comic book movies from other publishers. There’s room for everyone as long as the movies are good.
