I don't know who Bill is, I haven't played the games. I know things about the game that kept me from playing them like Ellie being gay in the 2nd and a muscular lady that's supposedly trans... But I never played them, I considered playing them after watching the first two episodes but I'm not sure anymore. I'm specifically talking about last episode, alot of political talk even if it was subtle and cmon lets be honest. The Bill story was done to strike a checkmark in what a modern show is supposed to have now n days. This is why I have a hard time feeling that the story they were telling was genuine. I couldn't take it seriously. You felt the episode come off as completely natural?
24 hr's ago I had no idea what episode 3 would be about. I wasn't expecting the woke stuff until season 2 when they would probably get to the 2nd game. I was shocked to see them go down that route so early in the season. I was basically arguing about something I knew would happen just didn't know it already had. I don't have any agenda's. I'm watching the show, I'm not telling anyone not to watch it. I can't partake in this conversation if my view points dont align with yours?
You've had multiple people tell you that what you read about this is wrong. There's no "supposedly" about it. Why do you keep repeating the thing that you now know is wrong?
A gay couple ain’t Woke, bro. If it were a trans thruple and one of them identified as a tulip, you would have a good argument.
Remember the pink haired lady in Star Wars and some of the other stuff in that trilogy it was cringe and eye roll worthy. In that aspect, Disney took it too far and it helped ruin even more an already awful plot. Now though people like Salvy AT ANY POINT in a book, show, movie, game hell even a song, and any thing about someone gay, experiences racism etc at this point will have something to say about it. It is so over the top at this point it's as cringe as the Star Wars example above. I wish both would just chill out. Normal people though get to be annoyed by both ends of the spectrum.
I don't understand the negativity surrounding the episode. Not that there's much of it on the interwebz, but the only thing people point to is the gay relationship. And if that's the only negative about the episode for you, that says more about you, the person critiquing it, than it does the episode, itself. Doomsday prepper Bill was who Joel would have inevitably become if Joel never met Ellie / had to care for Ellie. A bitter man who didn't care about having hope or care about humanity, in general. All they would care about is their own survival, and no one else's. This was a great episode because of the parallel. Bill found hope and a reason to care about things, in Frank, just as Joel will find hope and a reason to care about things, in Ellie. Joel loved Sarah but couldn't save her. Joel loved Tess in a different way, but couldn't save her. And now Joel has another chance with Ellie to right past wrongs. To the people fiending for action and more clickers and other yet-to-be-named monsters: there will be plenty of that in the show. But this type of episode really solidifies that HBO isn't just trying to appease gamers and lovers of action. This episode will generate Emmy buzz. I don't understand why a gay couple being shown on TV is considered 'woke trash' by most of the detractors, here. This was an episode about opposites attracting in the midst of a worldwide apocalypse. On one hand, you have a closeted conservative doomsday prepper who was 100% ready to be alone for the rest of his life - and on the other, a softspoken artist who was trying to survive by himself. The episode showcased the power of human connection, and that, despite the world ending around them, the two men were still able to find companionship with each other.
I don't have HBO but am very interested in this show mainly because I'm a nerd who has been watching documentaries about cordyceps fungi. Every now and then Xfinity gives a free weekend of HBO. I'll try to binge it next time they do.
Excellent Post, whether its heterosexual, bi-sexual or homosexual.....its just love. I thought the storyline was awesome, for those posters who bring up the "gay" plot, I think they have a different agenda, and they can't see the forest for the trees..
Did people just start watching television on November of 2016? Wait til they hear about this new HBO series. I had a preview screening: Basically a hard working lawyer dude, Tobias, gets drunk behind the wheel and kills a child. Sentenced to prison for 20 years, he falls in love with the guy that sexually assaults him, causing tension inside the ranks of an Aryan gang. It's supposed to be a banger. Show also covers other factions in the prison. Back on topic, it was a good episode. Usually in shows about the apocalypse, I tend to like the origin story scenes more than the current events but in The Last Of Us they keep the intrigue for both the past and present. That's the best way I can describe it.
Not everyone has an "agenda" who didn't appreciate the love making scenes. It just seemed forced for what it was. I'd have no issue with two main gay characters having sex or whatever. It was that they didn't even play a major role and seemed to have their love life pushed onto the audience to make a point. It seemed like a filler episode. Again I'm a Democrat so I don't have no agenda. People can disagree and not have different agendas or be anti LGBTQ community. It's okay to disagree in life. Debate is healthy
So you didn’t play the game because there’s gay people in it and now you’re mad that the show has gay people in it? Am I hearing you clearly?
The characters were shown as old. Very old and sick in Franks case. Yes having grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. at old age it is very common for them to have an open sentiment about not wanting to continue without their significant other. The hospice industry is a huge deal and it is very much assisted suicide. Hospice is essentially starving yourself to death but while you are asleep. We allow older people every day to die with dignity and yes it is very common for elderly folks to openly give up if their partner goes. It’s also a zombie apocalypse show. Another popular zombie show had a central protagonist shoot a young child she cared for because she knew she was a danger and would get other people killed or kill them herself. Did you rage post about The Walking Dead back then?? In context of other decisions we see in zombie shows and movies it’s crazy that THIS is somehow a controversial thing. Again.. it comes off as an agenda that you guys have because you see some low hanging fruit to wage culture wars.
In a zombie apocalypse maybe he would if it’s what she wanted. For now in the real world we have doctors and hospitals that help make people feel well enough to continue into their 90’s happy. When it comes time though, like my other set of grandparents they’ll do what they need to do to make sure their significant other dies with dignity and doesn’t suffer. I think people are just picturing Nick Offerman at the age he really is and forgetting that in the show he was old. The fact is the folks that get all worked up about the debate seem like they’ve never been through end of life situations with loved ones. I get the sense that people are taking the text of the Bible too literal when it comes to suicide and think the Bible is literal about that decision leading to you going to hell. Growing up in an evangelical church and knowing the text of the King James versions, I know that folks take the rules of heaven and hell very seriously so I just assume the debate comes from this arm of the religious and political media. I personally think if Jesus was here today he’d probably be able to contextualize the nuances of hospice type of situations but who knows.. I’m not Jesus.
Look, I was uncomfortable during the bedroom scene, nothing wrong with that. But it doesn’t make me want to stop watching the show lol. And it’s not going to motivate me to cry about it on a basketball BBS for hours.
just get it for a month for $15 or whatever and binge it! HBO has some good stuff in the last few years. righteous gemstones, peacemaker, watchmen, winning time, house of the dragon...all highly enjoyable and worth the price of admission. i also discovered over the weekend that they have a bunch of those old samurai movies. i watched hidden fortress and have a few other kurosawa movies in queue.
I find it hilarious all the ones getting offended and raising conspiracy theories are the ones who loved the 3rd episode for their own political agenda, claiming critics are bigots when their criticisms have nothing to do with the LGBTQ content in the 3rd episode. Man, it's getting just as bad with the liberal zealots as it already is with conservative zealots.
