Question - how do you enforce a transgender women using the men's bathroom? Do you check the parts of every person that walks into a women's bathroom?
The only thing this results in is overzealous busy bodies whipping out their phone and recording every effeminate man and masculine or "butch" looking women at public restrooms and harassing and embarrassing them. I mean this crap already happens.
Yeah whatever you say. I can't be bothered by your projections and outright lies. As I said, I wasn't aware you were transitioning. Good luck. You're mentally ill but hopefully you eventually find someone who will give you the attention you seem to need. Don't quote me anymore. Instead of following me around like a lost dog you should probably try and reconcile with your family who hates you
I see some comments in this thread depicting being Trans as a "lifestyle." It is not a "lifestyle." That depiction means one thinks being Trans is a "choice." It is not a choice. No one chooses to put themselves in harms way with how society treats Trans individuals. If you are Trans you are born with that mindset. What happens from there is whether the Trans individual decides to remain hidden (which for hundreds+ years people have) and suppress their identity or whether they live their authentic self in a society that is slowly becoming more tolerant but has quite a ways to go.
Agreed, all I was saying that it is a position that I have heard a lot of women make, especially in private. It sticks out to me because It surprised me, but once they explained it to me, I understood their position, regardless of my opinion on it. I am not a poll taker, so I do not know what the percentages of women are that support anything position, but I have found this topic with women to be more contested than I expected. Prison is an extreme situation, but one we will have to address at some point in the future.
There are a lot of people that do not take the time to talk or read about the subject. It is foreign to them so they believe that it is some sort of fleeting period in a young person's life, like the stereotypical lipstick lesbians in college depicted in some movies. I don't think that the vast majority of people would decide to go through the pain and suffering and danger physically and mentally entailed with being a transexual in 2023. At least, now there is an acknowledgment that transexuals exist and it isn't some sort of sexual kink. That has only happened recently. I do not doubt that there will be some people who transition that will regret it, there are already some people who have lived as a transexual and claim that they were just confused or unfulfilled when they lived as a transexual. "Self" can be a confusing thing to find and understand, especially in our society as a young person. We can battle over the definition of what makes someone a "man" or "woman" (and that is happening as we speak), but in the interim I wish that we all had more empathy for each other. Someone telling you that they identify as a man or woman and want to be identified and recognized as such, is not a harm to anyone, and it is just common manners to try to address someone like they wish to be addressed. Some people think it is funny, but it isn't. The depression and suicide rates for people with gender identification scorn is very high. Also, most of the issues I see being brought up and attached to transgender people do not fit with the transgender people I know. For example I have heard some say "trangender people don't tell people they are dating that they were born a different sex". I don't doubt that it has happened, but all of the transgender people I know tell potential mates that they are transgendered. Further, I have heard "horror" stories of transgendered people exploding at cis males for mistaken or accidently using the wrong pronoun. Again, I have only seen this happen once and another transgendered person told them to calm down. There is just a lot ancillary stuff floating out there that really doesn't do anything to help discuss the subject.
My experience is that it’s then opposite. Both of our experiences though are apocryphal so neither might represent what a majority of women think. I think us as a bunch of men speaking for women and what they think of trans women is presumptuous especially if we are doing so in the name of protecting women. The situation though should be addressed like with any violent prisoner. I mean if a black prisoner male were to rape a white male prisoner we wouldn’t argue that is why we should segregate based on race. We would tsk they prisoner and move him to solitary or some other higher level of security.
Agreed.... not surprising though because historically males have spoken for women. We are underutilizing women and what they can contribute to society. Actually, there are a lot of people involved in prison reform that believe that the races should be segregated in prison. Also, there are real possible issues with general population in prison when it comes to a number of issues, and that could possibly include being transgendered. In the past prisons have separated or put transgendered people in protective custody. I suppose that speaks to how poorly we run our prisons though.
Of course. Just looking at Clutchfans D&D we have very few women posters yet we frequently say we’re speaking for women in general. My point is that for the broader discussion of trans place in society particularly discussing with what children should be learning about transgendered I don’t think citing what’s happening in prisons is adds much to the debate.
Part of the resistance I have for some regulations is that we're still pigeonholing debate outcomes into mostly binary "male" "female" archetypes. Just like there are asexuals and polysexuals, I don't think these gender definitions are iron clad or fully categorized. That has as much to do with our culture and the language used than whatever notions of science that is mostly scrutinized on a notable and polarizing subset (at-risk depressives). Maybe I'm thinking too far in terms of societal acceptance and progress, but the truth is that society/science fully don't know nor understand the subject to make declarations seen in the topic (The Science), and that glimmer of ignorance with good intentions can undermine or hurt people who fall under those ambiguities. Of course, bringing this up will knee jerk the moral idealists in claiming these doubts would hurt the cause or embolden skeptics. Maybe in the short term with a heavy dose of cynical calculus, but in the long term that type of debate and rigor testing will hopefully help people heal and avoid strong backlash by a majority being pleaded to up their compassion.
Why is this debate so strong now? What changed 8 years ago compared to now? If I'm supposed to believe the article shared by JK Rowling then that means transgender women have already been in female wings of prisons for a long time. Why wasn't there outrage when it initially happened compared to now?
Having nuanced sincere convo is one thing but this entire thread started with a Matt Walsh tweet, the same dude who literally says that all transgender people without exception are pedophiles. You will always have skeptical people when the current framing of the trans debate started by abject hate mongerers.
So it is labeled Teen for Crude Humor, Violence, and Sexual Themes. It is very clear. It sounds like parents should do their jobs and parent their child how they choose.
these dudes who think they are not dudes really really really hate JK Rowling Instead of focusing their testosterone on the MOST SUCCESSFUL WOMAN WRITER OF ALL TIME (BILLIONS), they should make a fantasy book if they knew how to write books @J.R. @Commodore
