The skepticism is 100% deserved. Media gonna throw shade at the Texans because the Texans EARNED that sh*t! That said…the Texans are now on the road to atonement. They gotta take these lashes….but eventually…all will be forgiven.
Calling for Gannon after that game is dumb, I agree. Would rather have Demeco of the 2… but nothing changed in my desire for Steichen… I still want him most.
Listening to it, they know absolutely nothing about individual teams if they truly think Denver or Carolina are much better situations to coach in. That’s how the national media operates though. It’s all narratives and very surface level analysis with no substance.
These are the same people that said no black person should ever consider this job.. no one wants this job.. blah blah blah. I don’t care about things being deserved.. I just want accurate information regarding the situation. But it’s all good, Texans is finally trying to find a direction and I believe there heading in the right direction.
I don't know if DeMeco will actually be a good head coach, nobody ever really knows, but he would be a real hire. Unlike the last 2 coaches who we're hired for stupid PR reasons with the expectation of being fired.
Texans were seriously gonna hire Josh McCown last year lolol Hilarious that people gloss over this and then get mad when the Texans are called out for their disfunction by media pundits. Fortunate for the Texans, they fell into DeMeco, which is going to change the perceived narrative two fold: 1. that they are a racist organization 2. that free agents avoid Houston like the plague #1 was having an effect on #2, but all that is now out the window! We can now focus purely on football, FINALLY! Thank God! It will all be water under the bridge eventually once they start winning, but cats gotta take off those battle red colored glasses and admit the Texans were a sh*t show. I LOVE that Texans ownership is finally being held accountable with feet to fire for once after years of taking Houston fans for granted. Wasted 2 years in the rebuild already. Now it’s go time. I was working at Fox Sports Net back in 2001 and actually got to touch the all white Texans helmet the day the team was announced. (Texans have always been as bland as that helmet — haha) I been down since day one and like with everyone else, endured the YEARS of apathy by ownership who was just happy with ticket sales, jersey sales, concessions and parking revenue. Hopefully this is finally a page turner after 20 long years of “character”
DeMeco knows we have great fans here and honestly I was a little surprised he was geared up for the opportunity here after he had his situation with the franchise and his injury stuff. If he can build it up the fans will come back frothing at the mouth. This gets me way more optimistic than Culley or Lovie because of the relationship we have with him will allow more patience while he builds it up.
I'm wondering how the interview went so badly for them to completely pivot away from Steichen and hire Frank Reich outright. I was in on Steichen myself, just curious, cause that raises an eyebrow or two of concern.
In general I prefer an offensive coach to a defensive coach because of issues long term building an offense, but can't hate on Demeco hire. You're hiring probably the hottest candidate in the sport.
