I try my best to stay away from Twitter comments as it's often a reminder of how stupid we become and sure enough... 2nd post was a Seattle fan talking about Pena winning a participation award. I guess he stopped paying attention to baseball after Pena's game winning homer in the ALDS and didn't realize that Pena also won the GG, ALCS and WS MVP, and the actual WS trophy. Also, MLB didn't even spell "valuable" correctly on the Cy Young award.
Yet, when Correa was walking towards him after he was talking after a strike out, Kelly was walking away from Correa. Man, Kelly seems to run his mouth a lot about fighting when he walked away from one with Correa.
The wildest thing about the whole Joe Kelly nonsense is he isn’t even upset at the Astros for cheating - and for very obvious reasons. He’s pissed that they snitched and got guys fired. And from what we know now, we should all be. There was zero invective for them to do so. But A. why that isn’t discussed more and B. how Dodgers fans stan him bc they think he’s anti-cheating (lolololol) is mind-bottlingly frustrating and ridiculous. Dodgers fans don’t even know their savior us essentially PRO CHEATING. It’s like they’re so stupid they’re too stupid to realize it.
Murka gettin' dummer by the minit. lol. Seriously, though. That's just flat-out embarrassing that nobody caught that.
Too busy watching gams? Thought the job was Gammer person? https://duckduckgo.com/?q=gams+definition&t=ffab&atb=v182-1&ia=definition
https://theathletic.com/4132943/2023/01/30/top-100-mlb-prospects-2023-keith-law/ 80. Hunter Brown, RHP, Houston Astros Age: 24 | 6-2 | 212 pounds Bats: Right | Throws: Right Drafted: No. 166 in 2019 Last year’s ranking: Unranked Brown pitched for Division II Wayne State as an amateur, where he showed big arm strength but below-average command and control, walking 11 percent of batters as a junior even though he was facing lesser competition. His control issues have persisted up through Triple A, as he walked 10.6 percent of batters he faced for Sugar Land, but his stuff has improved since college to the point where he could remain a starter if he can throw enough strikes. Brown is strong and powers through his delivery even with an inconsistent arm stroke, working 94-100 mph with his four-seamer and getting good extension out front to add some deception. He works with both slider and curveball, with ridiculous velocity on the slider but not much spin or break, while his curveball has just average spin but huge vertical break, coming out of his hand with diametrically opposed spin-based direction to his fastball. He barely uses his changeup, but has managed to avoid a platoon split so far just with the fastball and both breaking balls, getting a lot of chases on the latter two pitches. He could be a No. 2 starter if the command and control ever improve, or a workhorse starter who walks 80-plus batters a year, or he might be relegated to the bullpen if he can’t throw enough strikes.
This is good to hear. Obviously every team wants to extend young players, but Brown’s experience in Atlanta will hopefully translate to his time here. Tucker, Framber, Javier and Pena are all young guys that I’d love to see locked in if at all possible. Then I think we all agree we’d love to see Bregman and Altuve extended as well since 2024 is their last year under contract as things currently stand.
I do think there are some pretty clear correlations in players as mlb pointed out. Strider’s extension could be used as a comp for Javier or Garcia or Brown. Olsons extension could be a good reference for a Bregman extension. I do not think Riley’s extension is a very good barometer for what Tucker might accept, and I am also not sure Pena would be open to the kind of extension Harris signed; I think both Pena and Tucker are fairly intent on getting to free agency as quickly as possible. But if this spring Brown can extend one position player and one pitcher on the type of discounted deal those Braves players signed, it’ll be a great start to his tenure.
There’s gotta be some sort of secret sauce in the pitch that gets them to accept… maybe they already project their next contracts, including inflation, and show them the total amount they could make with an extension now far outweighs what they’ll make waiting till FA alone. Who knows… gotta be something to it. Hopefully they’ll figure it out, albeit no rush. Also John McLain needs to stop. Nobody takes his **** seriously for football anymore… and now he’s trying to infringe upon baseball. And why does he have a nickname?
I wonder if the Braves are targeting amateurs who might be more open to accepting extensions, and/or preaching the benefits of extensions/loyalty to their minor league players. Of course it could just be that they got lucky and Albies/Riley/Strider/Harris all were open to giving huge discounts; of course their 2 big trade acquisitions (Olson and Murphy) also accepted discounted extensions.
