Initially, they were like "Very skeptical whether we can play him, he's like Kanter, no D" "We have Wood, who is our best player" "He is gassed" "He is always in foul trouble" "He is soft" "He plays below the rim like Scola" "He is a turnover machine" Then, after he impressed with some really good passing and other skills and finally, Wood got traded, and most people expected him to be the starting center this year and possibly have a breakout season, it was "We should start Fernando, we need a lob threat with KPJ, and Fernando is a better defender (lol), maybe we can play Sengun with the bench guys for some minutes" and "Jabari at Center, that's the way" Only when Bruno got hurt, then KPJ, then Jabari, did Alpi really start getting starter minutes and touches for the first time. And boy, did he respond. Youngest center to ever get a triple double in the NBA, and then another one. PER, VA, EWA are all through the roof. Also, the stats prove that his defense is not nearly as bad as the narrative about it. Now the tone is changing slightly towards "He might be getting great stats, but even if he has Jokic potential - Jokic hasn't won a title yet. That style never wins in the playoffs". This is such a weak argument, but at the same time a catch-all argument. 29 teams don't win, every year. Most of them play a more guard-oriented offense. And they don't win a title either. But as long as you haven't won a title, this argument can never be disproven. Which is why it's kind of disingenuous. The reality is that the team with the best player that year wins more often than not - Curry, Lebron, Kawhi, Duncan, Shaq, Dirk, Hakeem, Jordan - very, very different players and playing styles. I believe Alperen Sengun can be the best player in the league in a few years. Obviously, others can disagree. To be honest, it feels like people just have their bias in one direction or the other, and nothing will ever change their mind. Like, @maj21 repeatedly said he will NEVER change his mind.

Nah, never upset. However, people do boast about players pretty loudly and annoyingly and then get taken back when there's push back. Many times it's not the player they hate but the way that player is portrayed by others that gets on their nerves. I think most of the fans here are rooting for any Rocket player they feel helps us succeed down the line, but tensions flair during losing seasons when "winning at all costs" fans are meshed with "let's make the best of it" fans. Just a different perspective that many don't allow themselves to see. ...and then you grouped me into that All good. I'm a lover of all animals.
Hard-core sengun folks always like attributing racism to sengun poor treatment. It's more like the american elitism more than anything. A lot of Folks and casuals can't accept that international talents that doesn't fit the typical American nba player mold can b good/successful to build around. It usually take years for the casuals to love an international player U can find talent anywhere, silas isn't racist, hes just not open minded, he sticks to what he's more comfortable with which is a ball dominant guard.
