https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35550724/sources-niners-demeco-ryans-favorite-texans-hc-job San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is considered the favorite for the Houston Texans' head coaching job, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. After overseeing the NFL's No. 1 defense this past season, Ryans now is the front-runner to be the next head coach of the Texans, who cannot conduct a second interview with him until after the 49ers play in Sunday's NFC Championship Game. The Texans also think highly of Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who has strong support within the Houston organization, sources told Schefter. Gannon interviewed with the Texans on Jan. 14.
From what I've read around the net, he hasn't gotten to hire any yet. ... And probably won't get to hire this one...
I’m loving reading the comments The national media will not like this.. the racist Texans potentially will be hiring another black coach
Do we know if they can hire him this upcoming week if SF makes the Super Bowl? Or, if they're not able to until he's out of the playoffs, are they able to come to a verbal agreement?
Yeah I believe they can come to an agreement If I recall correctly, Kevin O’Connell (former Rams OC) came to an agreement with Minnesota to be their HC but they couldn’t hire him officially until after the SB.
Technically you can’t come to an “agreement” until after his current team is no longer playing. This will be more of a wink-wink situation.
I get the feeling that hiring Ryans was Cal’s decision because that’s what he thinks would excite the fanbase. If it was up to Caserio, he would hire Gannon because that’s who he’s most comfortable with.
Absolutely. That's the sense I get as well. Although I'm hopeful that hiring Demeco (if it happens... never count your chickens...) would be the proverbial blind squirrel finding a nut. Demeco is at worst my 1B choice. Really my 1A since Ben Johnson withdrew his name.
At least this time around, the top 2 choices do not suck ass. No one is going to say WTF when Ryans or Gannon is announced the new Texans HC.
If true and Ryans ultimately is hired, it will be interesting to see the dynamics between a HC who knows the GM didn't want him and a GM who didn't want the HC that will determine his future path.
For what it's worth, Seth Payne says he could see the two developing a very good relationship. Only making note of this as he is someone that knows both of them, at least a little bit.
I’m still being cautious, I don’t want to get my hopes up for Meco and then it not happen. Texans have been known to disappoint
