So if we get Wemby, then what? What are paying Collins 25 mil/yr to do with Wemby and Sengun eating up the PF/C minutes, not to mention Jabari?
The above is abhorrent. Suns get two rotation players for a first rounder and dump a bad contract. Cut out Atlanta, move Shamets out of the deal and route Crowder to a third team for a pick. That nets us +2 first rounders.
Exactly. The Suns don't get anything from the Hawks so let's just do it with them and keep all the picks. No use adding mediocre players when we don't have a core yet. If we're trading with Atlanta I'd rather have Okongwu or Aj Griffin.
The. Cap. Is. Going. Up. And the Rockets are WAAAAAAY under. They have the lowest active payroll in the league. Nobody needs to worry about the cap Other than Tillmans yacht broker.
The cap has always gone up. Bad deals still exist. You can get better players than Collins in free agency. This deal makes zero sense.
Havent watched him this year. I'm too lazy to read the full thread, has anybody explain why his 3pt% has cratered from a pretty solid, steady career 36% to 26% this year?
Yeah I understand that, but we don’t know if Jabari is starter quality yet. I’m not saying necessarily we have to get Collins, my problem is that we can’t not want players like that bc of KJ Martin. I understand the for reasons.. I feel like there’s too much attachment to players. KJ’s ceiling is a good role player, like come on
we should be wanting upgrades, but they gotta fit and make sense…as for Collins in particular, I don’t see the sense in trying to trade for him right now
I’m open to it, but not for any of the Brooklyn picks. Idk about the fit, but he would really help this team. Being patient until the draft lottery is probably the best bet. Someone posted saying KJ should be untouchable, which is insane imo
Unless the deal is better for the Rockets, I don't see the urgency to add a player who has been on the trade block for three years now.
in a trade, zero interest, as a FA, depends on how much he would want. There are probably zero players in the league that i would trade picks for at this stage of the rebuild that have any chance at all of being available, and the 27 nets pick is completely outa the question
If he gets passed up by other players, he'll play less. That certainly answers your question. This is a very normal type of a thing that winning non terrible teams do all of the time. But the likelihoood of your scenario coming to pass is not very high - your question is m Let's pretend the Rockets trade for JOhn Collins - great! He's a good player. Draft Victor - 14%. John collins remain a lousy player and not recapture his form - 40%? 50%? That's high, but whatever Jabari Smith Jr somehow becoming a better player than a median version of John Collins - I'd say 25%, but for the sake of argument, let's give you 50%. Wembayama, Smith Sengun staying healthy for an entire season 70 plus games to the point where John Collins is not really needed other than as the 3rd PF/C off the bench for spot minutes - 25%, but let's pretend it's 50% The chances of your nightmare scenario occurring are: 14% * 50% * 50% *50% - or 1.7% or so. And it's not even a bad problem to have! Good teams have overpaid backups all the time. The Rockets paid John Wall $40 mi to sit in the timeout chari. Who cares if John Collins is paid $10m more than he needs - its not your money and its not enough to preclude new singings, and it would mean things are going really well with the other guys. But sure, let's skip over the 98.3% probability and worry about being thrown into the briar patch of the 1.3% "worst case" scenario of the current squad organically developing into great players! How horrible. "Not wasting cap room becasue we only settle for CHAMPIONSHIP players ' is an excuse to be served a **** sandwich of a team and have tilman pad his profit margins for a decade. it's actually how Donald Sterling, Sarver and all of the very worst owners operate - skimp on team, save your cap room, give your fans absolute ****. I will give Tillman credit for at least talking like that's not what he's going to do (remains to be seen whether or not he's going to do it).
