At least you can see KPJ needs a different role. Don't buy into DD 's garbage. Look at his history of evaluating talent

If we land at 3, I want miller and not Amen Thompson. That shot is so broken. Miller reminds me of Ingram a lil too

I do too. I also wouldn't mind Walker. He doesn't exactly fill a position of need but I certainly don't want Thompson. Not only is his shot busted but it doesnt look fixable

Nope.. that league is also garbage! All I see is them cherry picking and showing off flashy dunks. There’s no structure

Hollinger: I think if they could bring a veteran point guard who was good enough to help them next year, they would have to look hard at that. This team is fairly screaming for an on-court organizer, and I’m sorry but Kevin Porter ain’t it. That’s a tight needle to thread — the Clippers, for one example, are likely to be willing to pay more than the Rockets are right now, and there will be other contenders circling – and they also need to make sure the player has something left in the tank and it’s not another D.J. Augustin deal.

[…] Look, we gotta talk about the elephant in the room. Ask anyone in the league who is the worst-organized, least-sound team in the NBA, and they will tell you it’s the Rockets. They’re selfish with the ball, they don’t run back on defense, and Gordon wasn’t lying: Most of their key players’ worst habits haven’t improved. Even the Rockets’ good moments are mostly a triumph of energy and athleticism over solid fundamentals. They play like an AAU team, except they’re in the NBA.

[…] Again, point guard is just such a glaring need. They’re going to keep being the 30th-ranked offense if it’s just Porter and Green taking turns pounding the ball on every play. Fred VanVleet would be ideal, but after him it is a paper-thin point guard market and they might need to look at making trades into their cap space. One lower-level guy who might be really good for them is San Antonio’s Tre Jones, but he’s restricted and the Spurs can match any offer (and have even more cap room than Houston). I’d also take a long look at Cory Joseph on a one-year deal.

(While we’re here: I’d also give TyTy Washington more of a chance. He’s struggled in his rare minutes but he was also good in three G League games. They’ve already given Daishen Nix 800 NBA minutes to prove he isn’t the answer.)

So TyTy is NOT the answer?:eek::eek::eek::eek:

At least it "looks better" LOL

If only we could have pass first championship PGs like Steph, Jrue, and Alex Caruso we would be unstoppable!! (Is THIS where Sengun = Lebron, Steph and Giannis?? -- OF COURSE IT IS :D:D:D:D:D)

It is a lack of coaching, not the players.....it is why with Lucas we look better.

KPJ needs a better system - so does everyone....

Everyone else: KPJ is not a PG (or Combo Guard or whatever else his stans want to call him)
KPJ Stans: KPJ is doing great as a PG/Combo Guard. Everyone else is at fault. The system, the other players.

Genuine discussion: do you believe he would be willing to play off ball offense and defense if pushed to do so?

That's my biggest concern. KPJ actually has perfect attributes to be a secondary playmaker at the PG position. Can play VERY good defense when he wants to. Great catch and shoot efficiency. Great size for the position. Doesn't hurt spacing. It's only about whether he's willing to know his place in the offense and defense.

If he's willing to do that he has a bright future. If by some miracle the coaching staff doesn't go away from making Sengun the top playmaker, KPJ's offensive numbers are going to climb and if he plays defense his advanced metrics will explode.

Of course, but we need a strong coach and a better option - which we have neither atm.

Right now KPJ is both our best PG - and he is developing there, and our best SG - which is his natural position and he is way better than Green is.....much more consistent.

This is what concerns me the most heading into next season. I recall Lucas mentioning before that he has to handle KPJ with kids gloves or risk losing him. Part of me believes that KPJ will not react well with a strict coach that actually properly disciplines him. That said, if he explodes then we can simply drop him.

I'm less concerned about that than I am about finding a player that would be good enough to allow KPJ to play off ball. Right now, we don't have one.

I'm also concerned about what happens if Jalen Green stays a terrible player and we need to make the decision to put him on the bench for the good of the team. I don't see him handling that very well.

IMO those are both bigger concerns than if KPJ will play off ball assuming we get players good enough to justify it.

I think it is deeper than willing. Of course, if he's willing, it would solve more than half of the problem. He'd either play off ball at the wing as a secondary playmaker or he'd come of the bench as the sixth man.

But even if he's willing, his decision making issue is still there. Every player on the floor regardless of position and role needs to get rid of dumb habits. Is Porter capable of that? Or would he be JR Smith?

Yeah but let's say you don't have to bark it at someone (the only thing Lucas seems to do) and you can actually just have a meeting and tell the player the new strategy. Do we see KPJ as a guy who will say: "well if that's what's best for the team and I'm certainly capable of that, yes let's do that"?

I really hope he does, but I am also not giving him the benefit of the doubt here. His interviews early on gave hope to more maturity, but his behavior on the court continues to make me question his maturity and how much being a team player actually matters to him. Some of it is coaching, but I have a hard time believing coaching is telling him to cut off the hot hand and "Now it's ME time!" and then proceeding to drive into congestion to force up bad, inefficient shots.
