It's not working because the goal of getting a high draft pick is to get superstar level talent not nice role players. Joel Embiid. Not Ben Simmons. Thus far we are 0-for-2 seasons. 60% chance of being 0-for-3 seasons this year if the season ended today. with outstanding draft obligations 2024, that means it's likely to be 0-4 seasons That is...not working.
There draft picks are 19 years old. Nobody here has any clue how any of these guys will turn out. Being short sighted is what causes panic and desperation The fact that it needs to be repeated how young these kids are is pretty remarkable
I'm actually not paying jack ****, neither are you; it's not your money (it's kidn of funny how you crack on tillman but...also want him to save money? I'm paying to watch games which I would like the Rockets to occasionally have a chance to win, and if that chance is 50% larger, my Rockets viewing experience woudl be 50% better than it currently is, which is an absolute ****ing void.
"Don't fall victim to shortsighted thinking guys, our franchise player will come around in the 2027 lottery" - thanks, Hinkie. I hate to break it to you but NBA rebuild cycles, losing entire decades is generally not normal and "stay the course" level stuff.
I don't want him to save money. The correct thing to do is not lock yourself out of options when you're in full rebuild. that's what I'm concerned with. He saved money at the cost of a perennial contender. that ship sailed. I don't give af about him saving at this point. I'm not really concerned with your viewing experience tbh. Like you told me, if you don't like it stop watching. It goes both ways
then you don't fully understand what a NBA full rebuild is and what it entails. but that's most of the board. Most of yall were never ready for one
The Rockets easily have the cap room and the cap is going up - please stop with this. And please stop with the 2019 era lamentation. "I'm not really concerned that the Rockets are not good at basketball and have no hope of ont being the absolute worst for a whole half decade" - then what the hell are you even here for? Go find something other than sports to follow, lol.
doesn't matter. I still don't want his fat contract and assets given up just to get him and still stay a sorry ass team. not sure how you equated your personal viewing experience with the entire outlook of the rockets. I can be interested in how guys like Bari, Green, AS are progressing, while knowing guys like Nix suck. and that having 0 to do with how your viewing experience is going. Idc about that The fact that John Collins seems to be some barometer to make your viewing experience better is actually pretty staggering.
Only you have the gumption to say Green and Jabari and Sengun are definite role players 2 seasons into their career. Its funny you mention Embiid because for his first 2 seasons Embiid was looking like a complete bust. You are impatient. Now, the Rockets could be wrong in the end but their goal is a long term one, it was to tank for top picks and to build around those top picks. If 5 years from now any of Sengun, Jalen, Jabari, 2023 pick, is an elite player, they were right...if any of these guys are complimentary all-stars, then they were right... But you can't say it's not working when they are achieving their goals thus far which is acquiring top 5 prospects.
Did I just read that the Bulls are seeking 2 1st round picks for Alex freaking Caruso? Lmao Gobert trade got the game all fcked up…now it’s at least multiple picks for anyone who is even just decent
Stars don't make it to Free Agency these days. Yes the Rockets are going to have a ton of cap space, but what Free Agent are they going to be able to spend it on who can make a huge difference? Yes there will be room for a max player, but what max Free Agent will be available? There will have to be a trade to spend that cap space.
Correct. I'm not pretending I have any say in that and just stating my opinion like everyone else on the forum.
OK, let's play this game. The last Rockets rebuild cycle lasted 3 seasons withot the playoffs until Harden arrived. The Rockets hovered around .500 most of those year. THe time before that, Post-Hakeem it took basiclaly 3 seasons, from 99-01 when Yao arrived. The Rockets had 1 28-win team in that stretch, not 3-5 years of being the worst. If you want to go way back, prior to that, they traded Moses Malone in 1982. By 1984 we had Hakeem. Let's look at other teams. The Mavericks went through a post-Dirk cycle of 4 seasons, had one 20-win squad, got Luka, the rest is history. Memphis recently built a contender - they won 22 games once, missed the playoffs for 3 years, and are now back. The Process 76rs spent 5 years in hell, but by year 5 they had Embiid actually playing and improved by 18 wins. (10->28). Those are pretty average. There's suprises to the upside too. The Celtics went 1 year out of the playoffs before they rebuilt. If you're telling me 5-10 years is normal, please post some evidence. If you're telling me that teams have to not just be bad, but be the literal worst team, historically bad for 4-5 seasons in a row. The Kings and the Magic that go decades without making the playoffs are the outlier, not the norm. It's so weird how you want to lambaste current management (deserved) yet still want them to be awful and excuse their underperformance.
Collins would probably make life easier for all of these young players. Id love to start Sengun Collins Smith Green KPJ(he will start) Maybe next year our lineup is Sengun/Wemby Collins Smith/Eason Green/Jaygup Harden/KPJ
Yeah, Collins is actually really solid defensively now, I would have zero interest in him if he were still bad defensively. As for Victor, he is going to play the 5. He has a legitimate 8 foot wingspan. Also, between Wemby, Collins and Smith you are looking at wingspans of 8'0", 7'0" and 7'1" and Sengun has a 7'0" wingspan as well.... that front line also would lead the league in blocks.
The rockets full rebuild didn't actually start until they drafted JG in 21'. Hence why this roster is full kids
I absolutely can say it's not working because the Rockets don't have top 5 prospects, now they have first and second year players whom most people would say are not even top 5 or top 10 players in the draft class, for Green and Smith, and sure the SOF's will tell you Sengun is a franchise level player but I'm not sure about that. Joel Embiid by contrast was an all-star claiber player the first time he stepped on an NBA court. That usually is the mark of a franchise level/MVP talent, and in Embiid's case it's obviously true.
