Trading a mid to late first for John Collins is not " a stupid trade" becuase some rando says so. Most mid to late firsts don't get to be as good as John Collins. Further, I know it boggles your mind, but it's possible to hedge your bets on Smith and Eason by bringing in new blood too Honestly, you guys who want to stand pat with this absolute **** show and think a veteran PG (Dangelo Russell is probably the only one available at the moment) is going to solve things alone is even sillier - the whole team stinks, top to bottom.
There's no actual timeline on how a full rebuild can take. Like I said it's based on luck. Whether a Ja, Luka, Tatum etc falls in your lap is dependent on the time you're in this state of a franchise. Regardless of how long it's been the cycle continues until you get that one player. Could it be Wemby? possibly. Going from the harden years and every year winning atleast 50+ games and going to playoffs has folks now taking it for granted. Folks assumed rebuilds were quick and that homeruns will be hit every year and with every move. Nah it doesn't work that way. John doesn't do much at all. Then we're going to have CF's complaining Jabari shouldn't be coming off the bench. If he's having to come off the bench as the #3 pick the draft was a fail to begin with. you don't make desperation moves for the sake of winning maybe 30 games. that does nothing. A 25 year old Collins isn't trying to go to some team to be some vet for a bunch of kids. No player in their actual prime years is trying to be demoted to that role.
this tank thing has never mattered to me. It's what people say who don't realize the rockets aren't good enough to win. Whether someone wants to label it as tank is irrelevant to me. The rockets have a roster that isn't winning games regardless of trying. They don't know how to win yet at this level as kids. Losing comes with it. The rockets lineup last night is the exact same ages as UH starting lineup.
The team haven't even figure out the rotations and pecking order yet. Adding any vets that will cost us assets for rebuilding purpose ain't it. John collins is a nice player to have if u have a team ready to compete but not someone u build around
John collins is a player u want to have when we are competing not when the coach is still figuring out the pecking order and rotations. U play your youngsters with an actual pg to see what they have. Saying they sucked when they are forced to play alongside a dude learning how to b a pg is just ridiculous. Rn the team is without a pg and is forced to on the fly play around sengun. This isn't even a permanent solution bc silas doesn't like a center oriented offense. No stability at pg, sht hc. Too quick to call folks busts.
I hear u but he could be a most improved player of the year type, like Markkanen. He’s only 25 and he has all star talent. But I agree it’s not without some risk. I don’t see his contract as an albatross though. I actually think it’s very moveble if things don’t pan out. We don’t even have pieces like Collins to move for future assets. I think it could be a good investment.
If he was so easy to move then Atl would have already done it. Collins has been on the trade market for a few seasons now
You can defend the coach's pecking order (he plays favorites) and rotations (which are often very "WTF, Chuck")?
Tanking is assembling a roster that can't win, it's the same thing to me. This team can't win no matter how hard they try, they aren't good enough, that's what makes it tanking. But that's not what I'm asking. You said you don't want someone like John Collins added to this team, because it makes us better but it doesn't help us. I'm just trying to figure out what you, personally, think the rockets should do. Not specific moves but just in general, if adding Collins is wrong, what is the right decision? Should we add anyone this offseason? Should we add players that make us win more than 20 games? Or should we keep winning 20 games until we draft Luka or Lebron? I want to know how you think this should go.
"But Daaaaaad!!! They only want TWO first round draft picks as well as Gordon and KMJ, it's practically a steal!" "Raf, Patty just told me we're able to fleece someone. Do it. Do it now" How farfetched do we actually think that conversation is?
I agree. He'd be a nice piece and would help the team. Price given though, I wouldn't give up picks for him or KJM. We need more veteran players period but hopefully get them at a good price and not overpay for them.
He makes you better by maybe and that's a big maybe to hit around 30 games. that's being generous too since his game is dependent on having a relevant guard play. I like Collins as a player. I would want him if I was a playoff team looking for a solid rotational player that could help the team win. But not for a rebuilding team with 26+ mil owed for 3 more years. What the rockets should be doing is what a team in full rebuild should be doing. Stay the course and hope for the luck you need. Not lock the team up in bad deals and go through the players you get until someone emerges and separates themselves as the player you can move forward with. that's the only way you can full rebuild. Until then nobody has any idea how you can build a team correctly without having that first #1 piece. This could take years and years. Again is Wemby that type of player. that's the next big opportunity. Hell even Scoot could be very good. Well find out soon
1. Fire silas 2. Build around sengun as the offense hub 3. Fire a vet pg Or 1. Fire silas 2. Grab a vet pg to control the offense We are in great need of a pg. Trotting out nix and kpj is not the answer.
That's just Kelly Iko's trade machine fake trade. The last report before this one from a few weeks ago from Shams was that a single first or a good player was enough for Collins - I'd gladly do that as the Rockets
Rockets send out EG, KJ, 2023 Milwaukee pick, a future 2nd rounder. that should be more than enough for Collins. We shouldn’t include any Brooklyn picks.
Yeah it all depends on the price. If that's our current first then hell no of course. I really don't like judging players until I know the price of them but in theory I think Collins would be a nice piece to have. I would rather have Dlo because of fit and giving Green a veteran guard to run with though. But I do see the argument here that team is so in flux that you might not want to add him. It seems Silas won't even be the coach next season so it might be wise to hold off on any big moves. He has a pretty big contract too. NOW Myles Turner? I'm all on that ship.
I am in the minority but I actually believe, if done in the context of other moves, and at the right price, that John Collins is just about the best the Rockets can do. They certainly will not get anyone better in free agency. First, I don't think that the contract of Collins is that bad, especially for a team in the position of the Rockets. Second, John Collins isn't and hasn't been used properly in Atlanta. Third, he doesn't demand the ball and is willing to do what it takes to win. Fourth, he is an above average defensive power forward at this time. Fifth, athletically he fits what the Rockets want to do and from a personality he fits as well. Collins fits the Rockets well if they end up with Wemby, Henderson or Amen Thompson.
He's...25 years old. oh, ok. What actual PG is going to come here? Chris Paul? Waiiting around for this to happen instead of trying to improve the team seems unwise. Second, It's not all just KPJ. Guys who miss open shots and layups - that' s not KPJ. It's just not. You know what happens when the ROckets get a new head coach? He's going to want to get veteran talent like John Collins instead of having guys who had starting positiosn handed to them like Smith Jr. and even at times Tari with his million dollar hustle and 10 cent brain.
John Collins is no longer a poor defender, he has improved a lot. He is actually good defensively at PF. As for Jabari Smith, he is more than capable of playing SF.
