“When it comes to the coaching part, the teaching part, and having expectations, if those expectations aren’t met, then the players need to know, and I let them know yesterday,” Silas said after Tuesday’s practice. “It (his speech) was about the importance of preparations, the importance of focus, it was about professionalism, and what it takes to build winning habits.”

He couldn't teach a YMCA team. It's embarrassing he still has a job. This moron left Alpi on the bench and literally cried over that b KPJ. He won’t be getting another head coaching job ever unless it's high school

Did he take the blame for 13 losing streak?

Well I guess he took the QB route in the NFL where they get the blame and credit

Silas is probably thinking that since he took the blame for all the other losing streaks he may as well get his slice of the pie credit for those streaks ending, the ultimate maverick

I see where you coming from but the Brotherhood is strong in the NBA circle and he would land an assistant job just on the strength on who his pops was, which is why he is in the circle to begin with

That was also the ClutchFans consensus for JB Bickerstaff when he was here.

I’m sure he can use that on his resume when he applies for his next coaching job once he is let go at season’s end. I’m sure his next applicant will ask bro how could you been on a 13 game losing to begin with?

My least favorite part about Silas is how little accountability he takes. He constantly blames the players, and not once have I heard him take ownership of the strategy, the rotations, the preparations, etc.

He also is the kind of weasel that passes the buck up the chain of command, like when he told John Wall that it was Rafael Stone who wanted him not to play.

A good-hearted fellow, but these are major signs of a weak leader.

Bickerstaff was an interim coach, folks didn't like him because of Corey Brewer playing too much.

His job wasn't supposed to be a long term one.

He wasn't good back then but to me wasn't as bad as McHale.

JB was a hard arse, not to be trifled with.

Look, once we pick up Amen Thompson and free agent Mike Conway next year we’ll be on our way to a 60+ win season with Silas.

silas sr is still the undefeated king of le tanks. teams trying to land the #1 would be fighting for smilas. i hope he stays and retires a rocket. imagine how many top 3 picks we can get if he stays for the next 30 years!

So how come he didn’t give that speech before one of the 13 previous games?

One reason it’s near impossible to stick with a tanking coach is because they use all their motivational tricks during the tank and when it comes time to actually win games, the players remember what was said during the 20 win seasons and dismiss it readily. This better be his last season.

Indeed, but if you replace any other coach with Silas they would still be a NCAA aged type team, but I feel the moral victories and competitive structure would be an upgrade

Silas signed on thinking he was coaching Harden/Westbrook and ended up with at that time injured and somewhat washed Oladipo/Wall with Wood converted rapidly to rookies and reflush strategy, but at the end of the day you are pretty much on cue

I've been watching the rockets for 30 years and I can say he and Mchale are the worst coaches we've had in that time. here's my ranking

Tier 1 - rudy, adelman. build the system around their players to maximize talent, effective game plans on both sides of the court, quick in game adjustments, logical rotations/substitutions

Tier 2 - MDA, JVG. needed players who fit their system. highly effective game plans on one side of the court. slow or no in game adjustments to their game plan. logical rotations/substitutions

Tier 3 - Mchale, Silas. no system or accountability. game plans sometimes appear misguided. player motivation appears to wax and wane throughout the season. rotations / substitutions are often illogical or misguided. slow or no in game adjustments to their plan. resorted to clapping when they didn't know what else to do.

JB gets a pass since he didn't have a full season and the payers all knew he was out the door at the end of the year.
