I see another Vince Young type situation happening here with Demeco. All the stars are aligning then you go with some other guy.
So you're saying DeMeco will flame out due to laziness and mental issues? This is nothing like VY, if DeMeco doesn't come here it would mean he's spurned the Texans advances not because the Texans chose someone else and left him hangin
Easy now. My grandfather, Luke, had a 4th grade education 100 years ago (but had 95% more common/business sense than the McNairs), turned a "propane and propane accessories" company, in a small town near Austin, into retiring as a millionaire.
In football, defense is about athleticism, strength, and speed. Offense is about scheme and skill. Coaching offense is vastly different than coaching defense. It requires much more intellect. Which is why offensive coordinators make such great head coaches. David Tepper the owner of the Panthers, and one of the smartest people on planet earth, focused predominantly on offensive minds for his head coaching search. There's a reason for that. We should do the same. All 8 of the AFC/NFC championship game coaches in the last 2 years have come from offense backgrounds. And a whopping 17 of the last 20. There's a reason for that.
Yea, if Denver gets Demeco. Instead of “settling” on Gannon and looking like you lost, go get Steichen. Dude sounds really bright and I would rather have offense anyways. Forgot he was at chargers with rookie Herbert too, and now hurts?? Go get him!
According to some Philly friends I have, they all seem to think Brian Johnson is the real deal and actually dread losing him more than Gannon or Steichen. One of my friends is both a Philly sports fan and UF alum, and he says that Johnson was in charge of Kyle Trask's development as well as the game planner for that incredible 2020 Gator offense under Mullen. If we do go with Gannon and end up with Johnson as OC, that might end up being the strongest combination of coaches we could end up with.
What do they know? An hour ago, they knew it was going to be Ryans and now they know it's going to be Gannon?
I don’t necessarily disagree, bc I like the idea of an offensive HC, but stats like this are a classic example of selection bias. One of the reasons for this stat is that the league is currently in an extreme trend of hiring offensive coaches. If it were a 50/50 or even 60/40 breakdown, that stat would be more relevant. For instance, if nearly 70% of NFL coaches were defensive minded, you would see a ton of defensive coaches deep in the playoffs. That being said, I’m generally more in favor of the offensive coach, bc that’s the way football has transformed, but I would argue that Demeco looks like the complete exception to this rule.
