Sucks that Pierce and Stingley weren't nominated for these, but they are barely on the outside of the lists above. I like our future with these 2.
Some good options at positions of need. would like to see them sign the best Center and DT free agents available. Gamble off-season: Hire Ryans Draft Jalen Carter at #2 Trade #12 for Trey Lance Draft WR at #33 draft Achane in 3rd Draft DB, OL, Edge depth in the late rounds Resign: Okoronkwo Akins Sign: DT: Dalvin Tomlinson Center: Ethan Pocic LB: Germaine Pratt Mid tier RB Mid tier TE
A first for Lance? 12 for Lance? A second for Lance? https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/michaelsilver/article/49ers-quarterback-brock-purdy-17730038.php Even if the Niners are receptive to potential trade offers for Lance after the season, they won’t come close to recouping that haul. Based on my conversations with several teams’ general managers (and other high-ranking front-office executives), Lance would be unlikely to net much more than a third- round selection, though it’s possible there’s a team out there motivated to give more. Based on Lance’s injury history and relatively small library of game video at the college and pro levels, it’s tough to imagine a team targeting him as its unquestioned starter, or even as someone with a strong chance of winning a training-camp competition. Viewed through that prism, getting a third-rounder in return sounds realistic. Lance, given a year to develop as Garoppolo’s backup, was supposed to be The Answer. However, his second offseason, training camp and preseason were marred by inconsistent accuracy and the type of growing pains typically experienced by young quarterbacks.
Why would the Texans trade a high pick for Lance when they can just draft a QB? Lance has shown NOTHING.
Not sure I understand this. He was thought of a top 5 pick last year. His training camp and preseason were marred by things you typically expect of young QBs. And thus, he's only worth a 3rd rounder next year? Unless his injury has long-term repercussions, you're getting a QB with 2 offseasons and training camps in a genius offense. But you're also getting one 2 years closer to free agency. So I can see why he'd be worth less than he was last year, but it seems like someone would still give a low 1st rounder to get someone people thought was a top 5-10 type pick last year.
Thanks GOD, you are not the Texans' GM. Trade #12 for Lance....LOL. For QB coming off a broken ankle who has shown NOTHING as a QB in the NFL. LOL.
Just because one team thought he was worth a top 5 pick doesn’t mean that all the other teams did as well. Not to mention, we’ve now seen him play in the NFL in a very qb friendly system and a team loaded with offensive weapons and he didn’t look good.
He was universally considered a top 10 pick - maybe not #3 or worth the trade, but everyone had him up there. And we haven't actually seen him play in that system. He played mostly in gadget plays in his first year. He started two games and looked good in one, though that was against the Texans. This year, he played 1 game in a monsoon and then got hurt in the 1st quarter of the 2nd game. He's basically the same level of unknown that he was when he was drafted. The only thing to bring his value down is if the injury has long-term consequences and the fact that he's 2 years into his rookie contract. The only thing to bring his value up is that he's been in the NFL for two years going through drills, training camps, learning scheme, etc.
Think of this way: You buy a car and it immediately depreciates as soon as you drive off the lot. In the NFL, unless you perform, your value drops immediately.
No one. Pat Mahomes could come over and maybe add a win or two to the team as it currently stands. This team needs way more than a great QB to save this **** show.
