I can't have this conversation again. I think someone already pulled up enough of your past posts, you should just read them.
No, of course not. Ya you don't care about being right at all, and yet you talk like this an awful lot. Prescient prognosticator that you are
Ehhh.... First, I know that a lot of "experts" are a little down on Jalen Green but I think they are too harsh on him. These same experts claimed that Green wasn't raw entering the draft based on what Brian Shaw said. Anyone that really paid attention could tell that he was very raw and didn't have the type of coaching and grooming that some other top prospects had since they were in diapers. He isn't going to suddenly improve in all areas, it takes time. Now, he does have flaws and I wish some areas of his game were more advanced and I wish his effort was more consistent but he is on a team that is terrible, very young, has a poor head coach and has poor role models. Also, he has improved in some areas from last season and he isn't a complete product yet. Eventually he will learn to do the little things better as well. The Rockets took Green because his upside as a dominant scoring guard is more likely to lead to a franchise player than post players. Green is still on pace to be a dominant scorer. As for Mobley, he is more of a winning basketball player right now, and maybe long term as well, but he isn't going to be a franchise player. Now, a lot of that is because once Mitchell joined, they didn't need Mobley to be a scorer. Defensively Mobley is a monster. Anyone giving up on Green at this point is being silly. There are some concerns, but nothing that disqualifies projections for him at this point. I also suspect he would be a better player if he didn't have Porter on the court with him.
Jalen Green was taken over Mobley because Stone and Fertitta wanted the upside of Green. Sengun is someone that Eli wanted, and Eli is exceptionally good at what he does - but he isn't a smooth talker like Stone.
It was leaked before the draft that the analytics department- Eli - wanted Mobley. I’m thinking Fertitta wanted Green for more than upside, but rather marketability. Green had by far the most IG followers entering the draft and was already a brand of his own. His agent did a great job. But I wonder who had better attendance last year, Houston or Cleveland. Winning sells better.
Really? A guy who spent three years in college who is on a team that gives him a lot more assisted looks than Green gets jere and still scored significantly less than Green on only 2% higher ts% their respective rookie years? How would he look doing what Jalen has to do to score by consistently having to beat three levels of defense almost all the time with **** spacing? That guy?
Scoring is not all there is to the game, and the problem with Jalen (ours) is that he doesn’t even do that well, and does everything else horribly.
if we ever get rid of Gordon, which is a massive IF, then I could see Green finishing up averaging around 23-24PPG... and if you said Jalen was going to average 24ppg in his second season I don't think there would be many people who would be "regretting" that draft decision.
To clarify, by “franchise player” you mean face of the franchise, IE marketing purposes, correct? If that’s the case then 1. I agree 2. Boy does that explain a lot of our mistakes…
I mean he literally the 8th highest scoring average for a 20 year old in league history. An a lot of the guys especially the guards in the top ten had similar ts%.
Those numbers were never going to go up in year two for a player like Jalen Green. He is simply too raw and has too much to work on. The hope is that by year four or five he is in position to improve in those areas. The positives this year for Green has been that he has shown the ability to not have a major dip in efficiency while increasing his usage. A lot of players cannot do that. Green has seen his usage get to a number where the Rockets can likely count on him scoring a lot if he improves his overall efficiency. Green has shown the ability to get to the line. He is now going to the line more than LBJ, and almost as much as Durant and other high end scorers. He will likely see a continued increase. That is a must to improve efficiency and show he can carry a large scoring load. So that is a big positive. He has shown the potential to go to the line 10 times a game in his prime. Green has showed that he is durable as well, and has shown an ability to use screens and play the two man game with Sengun. He has also IMO played better without Porter. That bodes well for the future. He still has a lot of things to work on including overall consistency in effort and performance, and he needs to improve his handle and passing and playing naturally within the flow of the game. Defensively he can be good guarding point guards in the right system, but even if he has to guard shooting guards, he can be passable with more consistent effort. Also, I look at how different he plays at home versus the road and that is consistent with some young players. He is a far better player at home, and the sample size is getting larger. That tells me he is capable of being better overall. As for Mobley, he is the better player right now and maybe always will be, we don't know yet. He does little things very well and has without complaint put his offensive game on ice because the CAVS have Mitchell. He is a winner, and a very good player.
