I said this last year, if we just pretend we drafted Sengun 2 and Green 16, I would actually have zero complaints. Except the reality is we could have had both Mobley and Sengun. That probably means no Jabari, which might not be a huge loss, but also we wouldn’t be on track for another top 5 pick. I’ll promise you this, if we end up getting Wemby, I will never speak of this again and make a thread personally thanking Stone for taking Green over Mobley. It’s the only reason we have a shot at Wemby.
The Blazers drafted Bowie(Thabeet) over Jordan due to their analytical dept as well Its why I stated the draft is a big hit or miss gamble for most part Sometimes the front office makes dumb moves like when Divac was traded for Kobe, or when Darko(Thabeet) was selected over Wade/Melo/Bosh due to their over thinking analytical dept Ish happens, get over it
Analytics today is nothing like it was 40 years ago, in fact Daryl was the one responsible for starting the modern day analytics revolution. Darko was not drafted for analytics lol wtf, he didn’t put up any numbers in Europe, he was drafted purely for potential. But yes, even though analytics are better today, nothing is 100%, I agree that the draft is still a gamble, but we can use data to improve our odds. Instead we hired Chris Wallace who took Thabeet and listened to him instead. If I’m Eli I would have been livid. Probably why they spent two firsts on Sengun, to placate him.
Or you can just use a couple of guys who had Sengun in top 5-6 big board and trick yourself into saying the Rockets got two top 5 picks Regardless who they select in upcoming draft, just stick to your guns but stop trying to prop up your preferred selection and make it into something it is not, Mobley is a solid defender and when he hits his prime he will be all NBA team defender if health permits, the other side will come later due to them being heavy dependent on their backcourt, but it won't be near his defense prowess capability Plus it helps he plays with another big who is capable of making a all NBA defense team
Poppycock, this is just like the cliche of how advanced technology is today when it got everything from the old world which was many light yrs ahead dealing in supreme technology/Cosmo energy no player is solely drafted on analytics, that's just a slice of the pie when looking into it, just because something is more hyped up today doesn't mean it wasn't used in the past Tell me then why did Pistons select Darko who was inferior to those I named he went before? Did they just use the eye test? Did they just base it off so called potential? Analytics been around for quite some time, nothing new is under the sun Just like how now high scoring/fast pace is back in style but was done way back in the 60s and in the 80s then it took a break in 90s and early 00s
Or maybe the front office was wise enough to realize Mobley was limited on off side and went out and got a stud to team up with their other young up and coming guard to carry the team Mobley offensive game is limited, not trying to down talk him, he just gets most of his points spoon fed to him, its why when he has a quasi big scoring game you and his crew get very excited, because it doesn't happen often, but 14/15ppg and 8rpg is solid for a young big, but nothing screams Franchise player, or they would have put more on his plate and not went after Mitchell
the advanced #s are part of the overall analysis (and a significant part as shown by you singing sengun's praises very early on even before the draft) but as i mentioned, there are numerous other variables and context to take into account for these kids. you've done this for mobley, citing the donovan addition. i'll add another for green this season and that's the defensive coverage opposing teams have thrown at him, both on the perimeter and packing the paint. green's coach is a mental midget getting abused strategically by opposing team staffs every nite, so here we have a 20yr old kid essentially expected to figure it all out on his own producing points efficiently against stronger more experienced opponents... and you see him regress on conversions in the paint meanwhile mobley, who is now being paid even less attention by the defense and has another guy soaking up all the attention, and setting up him... has seen his paint efficiency soar if green does not show progress next season i'll start to worry, but it's too early now
Green’s usage has also gone up this year due to trading Wood, and his % of assisted field goals has gone down which means he has had to create more for himself. Yes there is context and the slight dip in scoring efficiency isn’t the end of the world. What worries me is the numbers that measure contribution to winning, those have gone no where when you would expect a leap in defense (he was horrendous last year) and playmaking.
This is totally fair, maybe it’s too early. I was just never in on him being some franchise player or superstar, and the evidence is now mounting so I choose to be out. I could be wrong, I hope I am. Despite wanting Mobley over Green, I didn’t say anything bad about Green after we drafted him, I praised him all summer league when he looked good. Only after that 0-11 game I had enough. Then he went on a tear after the allstar break. Similarly, I haven’t said anything bad about Green all year this year, until that embarrassing performance two games ago when I’ve had enough. Hopefully history repeats and he starts to go off to end the season. There’s still time for all of his advanced numbers to go up, which would mean he hasn’t stagnated and would make his prospects look a lot brighter.
Those posts were from last year and boy do they look prescient now, since it’s been a whole year and still we have seen zero improvement. So much for that Kobe work ethic. When you grow up a little maybe you will learn what PR means and how the industry builds hype to prop up their man. He sure has a great agent! Maybe by then you will learn how to converse like an adult also, kid.
Lol that was a miss, although pretty early I started calling Suggs a bust, around summerleague even. Right about Mobley, right about Sengun, right about Green, right about Giddey, pretty right about Cade (he’s been mid), right about Paolo. Let’s see what you have been right about? Also wow do you have a lot of time on your hands to dig this stuff up, go get a job maybe and you wouldn’t be riding some emo kids jock all day defending his honor. Jalen is going to be fine in life he has already scammed the league for millions, you should worry about your own pathetic life instead of living vicariously through others.
You are in no way shape or form right about Green. You have written off a 20-year-old who shows blindingly bright flashes of stardom 1.5 years into his career. That is asinine. Honest question: why are you a fan of the Rox if it makes you so damn unpleasant and miserable? Nobody is forcing you to watch or to pollute this board with your vitriol and hate. Imagine hating so hard on the dude we took 2nd overall midway through his second year. Just sad.
You left this one out. That was October 12, 2021, before the regular season even started. Became clear he just ain’t it, just like Green.
I dunno where you think this is, but this IS the Green revolution thread. Common theme among Green apologists, blind. Also why do I follow the Rockets? Because that’s my team. And as a Rockets fan, I like the good players that help my team win, and dislike the bad players that make my team lose. The last time I was part of a great player debate it was Aaron Brooks vs Kyle Lowry. They said I hated Brooks, but it wasn’t that, I just like good players on my team, not losers. You kids probably don’t even know who Aaron Brooks is anymore. For Green, I don’t even dislike him. I dislike where we selected him and the opportunity cost we lost. And I also dislike his little fanboys that follow me around and can’t take a dissenting opinion like it’s communist China.
