I don't think he's stupid but I do think he's in that right wing bubble. We really have to do something about social media and how its algos work. It shouldn't just suggest things in your orbit. I don't know why Facebook, Twitter, etc, don't just have a politics tag and just put EVERYTHING under it. So if you tag that you want political stuff on your feed it shows you opinions from every side of every issue. So one moment you're reading about how we should raise taxes on the rich and then you scroll down and see an argument for why we should cut taxes for the rich. Instead, what happens is people start with how men should have more rights for child custody and then they're listening to some twice divorced dude rant about how women need to stay in the home because thats where the algo pushes them.
It's cool, I made a post about algorithm's and my problem with them. My algo is pretty varied because I consume a lot of political content from the left and right, I'm strongly on the left but I still listen to right wing commentators out of curiosity.
Disagree on the stupid part mainly due to his very poor media literacy ability to differentiate between credible content and not and his vague nature of being a "CEO". Agree with the rest. The way these algorithms work make impressionable people like ATW get sucked into a bubble where they love completely different realities.
I also see tweets from all kinds of sources. Actually, my Twitter feed is a weird mix of Rockets related stuff and some German politics and some international politics lol Instagram feed is mostly chicks in bikinis.
There is a difference between celebrating and preserving history. Public statues and street names is celebrating not preserving. It would be like the difference between naming a street after Adolph Hitler or reading about him in history books. I can agree that people go to far when they say we shouldn't read Huck Finn beceause it includes offensive language. I personally think we should be celebrating the Jefferson and Adams with street names and school names. I think we need to consider what they did in total and their total affect on this country than just focus on things that were not acceptable.
Zuby, Shapiro, Crowder, Bongino, Pool, Peterson, you know right wingers who pretend they're enlightened.
More than that there are many who are criticizing things like African American studies and CRT because they are claiming it is racist towards white people. They are simultaneously arguing that it is wrong to bring up racism in academic studies while bringing up racism.
Do you use the "For You" tab or the "Following" tab with the new Twitter? I'm like the Following tab. Cuts down on a lot of noise that the algorithm thinks I'd care about.
What does that mean? They are conservatives, I guess. Does that make them evil in your book or something?
that tweet is cooning at its finest…some people will tweet out anything for validation the grift is very profitable
I think in the immediate future, that the right is winning the narrative. Will they win down the line? No, but they will try to profit off of it politically in the short term.
Florida Dept of Education needs to be told that it is “bell hooks” if they are going to print her pen name. And she was a total badass. They shocking also misrepresented intersectionality but whatever. Even granting their misrepresentations I saw nothing wrong with the highlighted areas of concern for a class that is basically supposed to be college level. But ideas neither scare nor immediately convert me because I’m not an idiot. I’ve read and written about more critical theory than 98.153% of the population and never once did reading something make me a zombie.
Bro thinks masking as a response to COVID is a sinister woke conspiracy to erase individuality. He's gone far around the bend.
In the last week or so Twitter has been resetting accounts to For You repeatedly through out the day. There's a chrome extension that keeps it fixed to Following, that seems to be working well.
