Ideas are dangerous and need to be banned to prevent people from being indoctrinated...unless it's twitter, right @Os Trigonum ?
Is DeSantis a good arbiter of "the pursuit of truth"? He's a grown man with a family who says the term "woke" unironically. So probably not.
You wokesters can vilify him as much as you want, and the leftist press can do their framing, but he is right. It's a common tactic by the woke left to use positive terms and then sneak in their ideology behind that. Like "Black Lives Matter" - of course they do. But behind these positive words was a corrupt leadership team that ripped everyone off, while also introducing all kinds of socialist ideology. Good for DeSantis to call these tactics out. Education, not indoctrination - he is right.
Teacher to kindergarteners - "Okay children, today we are going to learn to share our toys!" ATW - socialist wokeism run a muck.
I thought that “gay stuff is inappropriate” law DeSantis put in only applies to grade school. He’s justifying removing this AA studies course on the grounds that it includes a lesson on black queer studies. This is an AP course for high school students, right? DeSantis isn’t qualified to decide how an historical analysis of black experiences in this country should be taught in an advanced placement course.
He has experts on his team. Maybe there could be a "queer studies" AP elective course, then people know what they choose because the label is on the tin. But don't try to sneak in ideology under a different label.
So talking about James Baldwin and how his experiences as a gay man informed his views on race relations is off limits for high school students in Florida? This is “sneaking in” ideology? How does one teach any sort of social studies course in a complete manner that is free of discussion of ideological perspectives? It is impossible. And I’d really like to know the qualifications of the “experts” on his team who made this particular decision.
comments section doesn’t mean anything I’m sure the Fox News comments section overwhelmingly agrees as well as usual, y’all try to sneak in a black person who might agree to try and validate something targeting black people
As opposed to the Right using slogans like "Make America Great Again" ? Of course there's no ideology behind that, a corrupt leadership that was ripping people off.
Yes I have a hard time accepting that anyone would seriously consider a social media comment section as being a valid measure of support for anything.
It hasn't and it will not. A lot of people, including some minorities are against CRT as it has been framed by opponents. As I get older, I realize that for as ignorant and out of touch the Republicans are on certain issues - the Democrats are equally out of touch believing that they speak the truth or speak for everyone. This is a cultural wedge issue and largely will only matter to people that are already very sensitive about race in the US. Even those that are more sensitive to race are usually more concerned about other topics. There are a lot of white and brown families and some black that will hold their nose and vote for DeSantis if they conclude it is best for them. A lot of people are fatigued from social issues right now and there is an opening for someone to claim they will shut down the discussion.
That means the right is winning the narrative. African American studies exist Right wing media "they are teaching kids to hate white people!" Reaction by public: "maybe African American studies shouldn't exist". Ya I'm also part of the brown Indian subcontinent ethnic community. **** anyone from my ethnicity that buy into that narrative. I know quite a few abject racist South Asians who make fun of black people in my extended family. I don't care about them sharing the same vote patterns as me. Their ideology is far too removed from me to respect them sharing the same votes as me.
It is a lie that a conservative has almost zero chance of getting a job as teacher. So comments supporting this from random social media accounts aren't really a positive or negative on how valid his statements were. It is also hilarious that you believe most teachers are out there trying to groom or insert a political agenda. It simply isn't a wide spread issue at all. I have no idea if you are just pretending to be troubled by this and trying to get people upset or if you actually believe this and have chosen the path of hysteria and propaganda over the path of reason. If you are just pretending, then I admire the self-deprecation.
