Agreed. But I want Payton/Steichen over Kafka. So in true Texans fashion they will get the lesser of the group.. or hey, incoming Greg Roman with Culley as his WR coach. This is the way, the Texans way.
Once we get our **** together, I want Bryce and team to beat the **** out of that *******. Someone should curb stomp his ****ing ass for ****ing us on the way out....
The quote from the tweet was "“He’s put together from what I’ve heard a very good staff”" Of course you can ask who he'd WANT on his staff. That's very different from actually having put together a staff.
Kafka is a hell of coaching prospect.. I wouldn’t necessarily call him lesser of the two.. he was under Andy Reid also if I’m not mistaken. I wouldn’t look at the game vs the eagles as a correlation of him being the head coach.
As I stated a few pages back, I agree that this hire should be an offensive-minded coach with a rookie QB likely coming into the organization at the same time. The problem for all of us as outsiders is lacking firsthand knowledge of candidate qualities and how much they are responsible for perceived results from the outside. In the case of Kafka’s one season as Giants OC, the obvious question was any part of The Giants turnaround due to his presence or was that all Daboll? It should be mentioned that Kafka was not on The Bills’ staff with Daboll, thus Kafka had nothing to do with the rise of Josh Allen. Daniel Jones was certainly better this season, but I’m not as sold as some in the national media seem to be that he’s definitely turned the corner and is without a doubt the NYG QB of the future. Prior to last year OC with NYG, Kafka was Patrick Mahomes’ QB coach in KC from the start of Mahomes’ career as a starter, but the question there would be whether pretty much any coach would succeed with a talent like Mahomes. Seeing through the weeds on these questions is one of the primary jobs of the GM. Let’s hope he is capable of performing those duties.
Sean Salisbury show is so terrible… Guy just talks to hear himself talk Thankfully John and Lance are on during that time.
Unfortunately I live in upstate NY, and my wife is a hardcore Giants fan. So I have to suffer through Giants games weekly. I'm no expert but all I saw this year was a resurgence of a healthy Saquan Barkly, and Daniel Jones running for first downs. If there was any special innovation i must have missed it. To my eye test NG Giants are better than the Texans offensively only because the QB runs, and they have better TE play. Kafka ain't my guy, especially if you need to make a splash and get folks ginned up again about this team. The only one who will move the needle in Houston is Ryans. Not saying he is my choice, but looking through Tommy Boys eyes, he fixes everything. PS glad we didn't Draft Evan Neil. dude is GARBAGE.
I would be shocked if *any* prospective head coach didn't walk into a meeting with a list of potential staff. And it's likely a good chunk of that staff he currently works with and has absolutely talked to them.
I also think Demeco is going to seize his moment and insist on bringing in some of his guys to the front office, kicking off what will be a protracted firing of Caserio, who will quietly step away post-draft. Ryans has *a lot* of power right now, more so given his ties to the Texans and him knowing what a home run hire he'd be for a franchise that can't hit it out of the infield.
Defensive coaches that adjusted to modern offenses. Tomlin. Out of nowhere they went from i to spreading it out between 2008. Rockstar Wade, sure he got fired but 'Romosexual' became a term as Wade had no problems unleashing Romo. I can't think of any other on the top of my head that embraced the offensive side. But just because you hire a Defensive minded coach doesn't mean you have to be 30th in offense. Are offensive minded head coaches more lit? Like Aaron Rodgers, I'll let you do your own research and come to your own conclusion. https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2021...-defensive-minded-head-coaches-record-success
Agree with this philosophy 100%. But did you see the Giants/Eagles game? It was 21-0 before the 1st commercial break. The Texans won't do it, but I think hiring Steichen and drafting Bryce is the way forward. Look what he did with Hurts and imagine what he can do with Bryce. That said, I think it's basically a done deal with Ryans and they're just waiting for the Niners to lose before they announce it. And I'm okay with that. Assuming he brings in a good OC.
I’m fine with that. As long as we also don’t look at the game against Georgia for stroud.. kidding, I do think I would rather have Kafka than the defensive coaches. But I really like Steichen, obviously Payton. And of the defensive guys I want whoever can bring the best OC. Not the optics hire.
he is the only candidate that can interview this week. lol. The others are still in the playoffs. Demeco will interview again next week.
My concern is that there won't be any high caliber OC's who view our offensive coordinator job as attractive. You've either got Davis Mills and few weapons... or a rookie QB... neither are recipes for success. The only way to get a great offensive mind in here is to dangle the head coaching position. They'll overlook the other challenges in exchange for becoming head coach.
