You guys know that I love all kinds of music. Whether it is hard rock, heavy metal, prog rock, any type of jazz that is instrumental, reggae, funk, soul, synth pop, new wave, post punk, indie, alternative, electronic, etc. The list could include some more but outside of country music (with some few exceptions like George Jones) and bluegrass - there isn't any type of music that I won't try to listen to with an open mind. With that being said, I have never gotten into nu metal. I do have some stuff on my hard drive that is nu metal but I never listen to it. I just have never seen the point of it. And 3 Doors Down - I would not classify as nu metal but that very bland and generic "post-grunge" which for the most part is another scene that I have no interest in listening to, either. But things and tastes change - I never thought that I would find myself liking Bathory but they have become one of my favorite bands. I am not expecting the same with either Korn or 3 Doors Down.
When the shitty rock station in your area plays Papa Roach for 23 1/2 hours out of the day, 3 Doors Down doesn't sound so bad.
How much are they helping JD's vocals here? They got that computer working overtime to help him keep up with Layne.
I wouldn't sleep on JDs talent on vocals and while there's definitely some layering/fx being added here I doubt it's full on crazy effects most newer singers use today. I mean when original AiC and eventually KoRn formed both singers didn't have access to crazy voice fx edits and both have unique sounding voices/good range. Would I put Davis above Layne, no, but I do like both bands/singers. The thing that sucks the most in all of this is not getting to hear Layne have a bigger catalog of songs.
