    clearly deserves its own thread

Aretha Franklin song ‘A Natural Woman’ blasted by transgender activists

    https://nypost.com/2023/01/23/aretha-franklin-song-natural-woman-blasted-by-trans-group/

    excerpt:

One activist group in Norway is calling for Aretha Franklin’shit 1968 song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” to be removed from both Apple Music and Spotify after they deemed its lyrics offensive.

The Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance took to Twitter last week to condemn the ballad, citing that it has ignited harm against transgender women.

“Aretha Franklin’s 1968 song ‘Natural Woman’ perpetuates multiple harmful anti-trans stereotypes,” the organization tweeted. “There is no such thing as a ‘natural’ woman.”

The message continued, “The song has helped inspire acts of harm against transgender women. TCMA is requesting it is removed from Spotify & Apple Music.”

The tweet was apparently intended to be satirical, though it’s weird for a trans group to put out controversial and possibly absurd takes as “parody”. How does that help their cause?

Actually they probably aren't even a trans group. Actually "they" is probably just one person.

This "group" has literally no presence anywhere outside this one account.

If it is satirical by trans group, trans folk would be better served to read the room.

fwiw, I thought it was funny.

Lol it 98% isn't a trans group. It's a single individual claiming to be a trans group.

Search for any presence of their activism and presence outside the account which I was created in 2023.

the twitter link says its a parody website...there are even tweets from them calling out the media who ran with their onion-esque tweet as if it was real.

    TCMA: Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance

PARODY/SATIRE: Founded January 2023 exclusively by trans individuals, promoting cultural changes to ensure the inclusivity of trans individuals.

    https://www.iheartradio.ca/news/no-...etha-franklin-s-classic-is-harmful-1.19135977

Parody was added after the fact. And apparently when first contacted about it by iheartradio, the person doubled down on it:

When first contacted by iHeartRadio.ca via direct message, the person behind the TCMA account insisted it was legit. "I'm honestly not sure what [people] want us to say to be convinced," wrote the person who identified as Ella. "Eventually as more organizations move toward our positions, they will realize it I guess."

Could be a trans person or activist who put out something and then decided later that it was dumb and called it satire, or it could just be an internet troll.

Internet troll most likely especially given that it's a "organization" that was created in 2023. But ya I can also see maybe a slight chance it's a trans person who thought their attack on Aretha Franklin was going to get positive response. But when has the trans community cared about if something don't like is popular with the mass public? So I doubt an actual trans person who suddenly jump ship just because their attempt to cancel Aretha Franklin generated negative response. I would assume any trans person would already know that it would generate negative response.

I assume trans people are like pretty much any other group of people -- there are some among them who may not make the most sensible decisions.

Really makes you wonder how Transformers stood the test of time.

The name itself has trans and gender change rolled into one.

None of the trans people I know would have a problem with the song. I guess if someone played it to be nasty they would.

Also the song doesn’t even mean what some seem to think it means.

Also… if anyone has an issue with Franklin… she grew up in Detroit, during a very dangerous time period, was molested, has had family members murdered, was physically beaten as a child and an adult… was pregnant by 12 years old…. With the life she has had, I doubt she gives a damn what anyone thinks of her politics.

Men telling women they are the "better women" somehow means fighting for LGBTQIA+ and women's rights?

The three usual dips**ts in a thread that was prompted by a parody.

Y’all definitely were some of the morons whining about Pink Floyd’s tweet with a rainbow for the Dark Side of the Moon anniversary.
