I’m no expert, but all reports are the Henderson is a better facilitator than either KPJ or Green. If Scoot is the pick, I try and trade KPJ. Green is off the table as far as trades are concerned unless it’s somebody like Lamelo Ball. My take is that if Wemby or Scoot is the pick, then everyone on the team other than Jabari, Green, Sengun, and Tari should be available in trades. All our draft capital is also on the table. No to Harden or Durant or any other vet who is nearing the end of their careers and have/want more than two years left on their contract.

If it’s Wemby, I’m after Lorenzo Ball, Caruso, or Connelly in a not too costly trade. I’m after a defensive backup center and/or PF with a mid-level contract and not too many years. Hell no to this year’s FA crop, unless they are cheap backup vets. Just for instance a lineup like this will allow for a much better product on the court and still have plenty of resources left to build upon when the right players become available:

    Lorenzo, or Connelly, TyTy, KPJ
    Green, KPJ
    Wemby, KJM, Tari, Tate
    Jabari, Vet, Wembi
    Sengun, Vet

    If it’s Henderson than:
    Henderson, Connelly
    Green, KPJ
    KJM, Tari Tate
    Jabari, vet, Tari
    Sengun, vet, Jabari

I think he can be in the mold of a prime athlete CP3 before his injuries when he was with the Hornets. That what I hope he can become if he becomes a Rocket. It all depends on if his bball IQ is as high as the hype.

I have looked at the list..... Good players don't go to FA much anymore so the whole point of the FA will be to upgrade roster spots that our better than Nix, Garuba, Matthews, Fernando, etc.

I am under no delusions that the Rockets will have the pick of the FAs, but I'm also not on the EMO side where everything is crap and we will need to hand out a max to Kyle Kumza to sign him.

We need to trade for players because most players by the summer will have a new contract or traded. We are not going to get Harden…he is playing us to get a bigger contract from Philly. We need to trade Gordon, Tate or Martin and 2 1st for OG from Toronto. We need to use those Harden’s picks for a young stud player.

Not really. Clearly I don't share your overall bleakness towards the team.

You are right that the better player(s) will need to be acquired via trade, but the Rocket's roster is so bad right now that players like Bismack Biyombo and Matisse Thybulle are upgrades. Also, Houston is still very much a pro athlete city so it's not like we don't have any selling points.

We don't need to swing for the fences and blow our wad this offseason.

This is apt. A 6 chamber revolver, 1 in 6 is 16.7%; getting one in the head is more likely than getting Wemby.

Odds get better when you include Wemby and Scoot.

Well sure, the better players will needed to be traded for. Matisee Thybulle and Bismark Biyombo are better than about half our roster.

Yes, it is possible that Henderson gets hurt, has a personality change or for some reason just doesn’t translate but it isn’t very likely.

I expect Green will be a better scorer than Henderson long term. However Henderson will likely lead the team and offense. He is very outspoken and has a dominant personality.

It isn’t an indictment of Green as much that Henderson has a very strong personality.

Bleakness? Depends on the draft and what they do going forward. They aren’t at a point of no return.

As for free agency, Fertitta wants a big splash.

cant win by cutting corners... tanking doesnt work..you gotta be able to work your way towards title by working with and developing from any position in the draft...

this is the only formula that works ..self reliance....and this is what sports is about...its not about cheating your way to the top...if you bribe the refs, or cheat silver and other into giving you the bets players the title will be meaningless...

but going down the road of self reliance and basketball mastery you will be a winner even if not getting the rings ever...

theres no glory or satisfaction in cheating your way to title or being given the win on silver platter...it only tastes good if you have deserved it...if you fought against the odds and come out a winner!

this is the way of sports!

I'm more worried about Tilman than Stone or Silas. There are no major FAs in this draft, but making a major splash with a trade is certainly a big possibility. Even if we don't get a top 2 pick we still have lots of moves to make.

Ironic that he had his splashes with Westbrook and John Wall.

    Dude never learns.

I don’t think Wall was supposed to be a splash. More making the only trade we could to offload Russ and pick up an asset that was ultimately used to get Sengun.

Westbrook for sure was a “win the press conference” terrible trade.

Do you have a better one?

Tanking is the only plan that gives you everything.

    A) a potential franchise centerpiece on a rookie scale contract.

    B) Draft capital that's enticing to other teams - not just "lottery protected" or "unprotected" but guaranteed early lottery picks.

    C) Cap space galore.

Well, there is one thing it doesn't give you, and that is, a watchable team in the meantime.
Don't get me wrong, this is the right plan IMO, but it is frustrating and will continue to be so for a while to come.
