It doesn't matter what Biden says. There isn't going to be a ban on semi-automatic firearms anytime soon. There is no way such legislation could get through the current Congress and even if it does it's highly unlikely the current USSC would uphold it.
The only way the amount of firearms and firearm deaths is going to be reduced. It has to be a change in culture. While crime grabs people's attentions crime particularly violent crime has been declining for decades. In spite of what alarmist say you can change government with votes. If you're on the Right just look at how FL and OH have turned into reliably Red States. That didn't happen because "Patriots" stormed their statehouses. If you think the government is coming for your rights yes you can still change things nonviolently through the vote. That said I don't have much hope for culture changing. At most we have to work at the margins to reduce the amount of firearms and who can get them but it's going to take a very long term process to seriously change things in this country regarding firearms if ever.
Suspect still at large and they may not even have a description. That's nuts. Predominantly Asian community, fwiw.
Honestly a lot of our gun violence goes far beyond just regulation of firearms. America has a systemic problem with healthcare, wealth inequality, work/life balance and online disinformation.
I would also say that there is much we can do about it, but corporate greed prevents anything from being done about these things, in most cases.
Monterey Park is ~ 7 miles north of downtown LA; it is home to one of the largest AAPI communities, if not the largest, in the USA. 65% of the population of P is Asian. Historically, during the lunar new year celebration week-end, over 100,000 folks come to MP to celebrate the Lunar New Year. ~10 PM, Sat nite, in a dance club in Monterey Park, CA, where many young folks were celebarting / counting down to the Lunar new year, a lone gunman w a semi automatic weapon fired at people, 10 killed, 10 wounded, the deadliest since the Uvalde school shooting last May earlier that evening, prior to this incident, there was another incident / disturbance (non-shooting) at New Year celebration in another dance club ~ 4 miles away in Alhambra; these incidents may have been related; the gunman has not been apprehended.
California with the most mass shootings while Alaska is the least with one. So turn every state into Alaska? https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/mass-shootings-by-state
It always is. Any time I start to feel good about people in this county I go read the comments section there. The really good ones are where the perpetrator is a minority or unknown. Hell any article about a minority is fair game there. They love to rant about the "13%"
