I do not think Sengun play like Scola, Sengun is a better playmaker and post up moves, both have high IQ and great passing. Sengun is not like Jokic because of the size but Sengun is a Sabonis Clone. Sabonis is athletic as Sengun, both does not play above the rim and not bouncy players. Sabonis is strong as a OX and has NBA experience to move his feet and will not allow to be back down. It’s not that we need to build around Sengun but we need better shooters on this team. Anytime when a team is doubling on a player someone will be wide open for a clean shot. Hornets were doubling Sengun and we had players wide open but could not make the shot. Sengun will be a true asset for us when he get shooters on this team. Can we get a couple of guys who can shoot over 40% at the 3 point line? Sengun is a legit 20 and 10 guy each night, he has some problems with shot blockers around the rim but once he get his outside shooting working he will be fine. Sabonis is an all-star and Sengun will be an all-star very soon. Watch Sengun while KPJ is out, if he play 30 plus minutes a game, he is average 20 points and 10 rebounds per game with over 50% field goal percentage.
LOL, I wish Jalen Green's slump was *just* 2 months, like say October & November, and not an entire half of an NBA season. You really want to have it both ways. I'm saying the Rockets FO is on your side, they value Green much higher than what, in my view, his present trajectory suggests (yes, I know, archetype theory, but there's some problems with that, as you know, since you are a conossieur of The Athletic, but that's not the point). They probably also value him higher than most non-Rockets observers, The Ringer recently dropped him off their list of top 100 players, for example and the back half of that list is pure dregs. I dont feel like recapping all the others dragging him, but there are obviously many, as you'd expect given his not great season so far. The Rockets FO seems to be aligned with your view, unwavering that Green is a future star, this accordingly seems to mean that they'd have a harder time in what they'd subjectively consider a good deal for him. Also, you'd have to consider the market for him would be bad. Win now teams wouldn't want him, he's not playable in his current state as a 3 &D player and you can't let him create, developmental teams can just stick with their own draft picks. Sengun meanwhile offers one marketable skill for win-now teams, the ability to create offense at a good clip and pass. And for developmental teams, they can envision him as Sabonis or whatever in a few years. Note, my original coment about Green had nothing to do with you or trolling you - but anyway you made a thing of it, so here's your answer.
I wonder how many of you have actually watched Jokic & the Denver offense outside of a few highlight reels. There really is NO comparing Sengun to Jokic outside of the idea that they both pass. Sengun might get down hill and attack the rim or make an unexpected pass .... or post up and hit a cutter. Jokic & the players around him run multiple actions with different guys touching the ball until they create an opportunity ... its totally different. A dribble handoff turning into a high post in and out turning into a pick and roll ..... that's the difference. Sengun is an above average passer for a big man but putting him on the level of Jokic is straight up disrespectful to the MPV .... and the guys playing with him.
Please notice that all your comments are about offense......I agree, and Scola could do everything Sengun can do and more at the same age. It is DEFENSE that you have to cover, Sabonis BTW is much quicker than Sengun as well.... So, again, if you build around him, you have to make major roster changes to make it work on DEFENSE. DD
You are 100% wrong. Scola is the closest thing to Sengun, DMO was as well, Sengun is not unique he is just old school....but many of you young pups are too young to know that. DD
Eh… Many of those changes have to come anyway. Build around a core of Eason, Green, Sengun and Smith. Both Smith and Eason should end up as above average defenders. Garuba projects to be as a 3rd big that will be a good defender. Need to add a tall defender and a point of attack defender after that.
LOL - Garuba is ****ing terrible, yet another too short big who is an anchor on offense, he just got bossed around the block by Mark WIlliams, he gets minutes because teh team though it would be cute to have Boban. Projecting to be a third big man is the same as saying "maybe one day he'll be a replacement level NBA plyaer" He and Bruno will hopefully both be gone by next season.
No, he would be my 3rd or 4th option. History of bigs in the playoffs says it all. No significant Big Big has won a championship since someone like Andrew Bynum. People need to ask themselves Why? Hope that they can is not a good enough reason... show me case study after case study. Harden wanted to play with Embiid....my guess is he would rather be a part of a two guard attack action or three man combo guard get up and go. Track record is better.
We are one of if not the worst team in the history of the NBA. I’m not committed to building around anyone. That being said in a trade here’s the players I would ask the most for: 1. 2023 first rounder 2. Jabari 3. Sengun 4. Jalen Everyone else Id trade for anything that essentially was a net positive and some equitable in value for pieces that fit better. I love Sengun but I’m not committed to building Jack around him yet. Maybe he can grow enough to change that but right now he has not yet earned cornerstone status.
Well no crap it is different. They have a system designed around Jokic. We do not have a system or a coach worth a crap. Some of us are saying we need a system designed around Sengun. According to the poll results that is a majority of respondents. Of course it would take a coach capable of installing such a system.
No because like we saw on Wednesday he can't guard bigger centers. He's not Draymond Green or even on the same plane of existence and never will be. Having a small ball switchable 5 - ok, doable if you're getting gains on offense. Having a small ball switchable 5 who forces you to play 4 on 5 on offense - not doable. In fact, a disaster. I don't care about "wasting time" with players because the Rockets whole season is a waste again - but a guy who projects to maybe be an OK 10th man one day on a good team in the best case scenario isn't worth worrying about. When you become a good team you can worry about it. Until then... next, get someone who actually fits and doesn't make you worse.
Denver played the Harden led Rockets multiple times and multiple times Harden got the upper hand. And with Luka against Denver it's 50-50. Recently KCP and Aaron Gordon have been tearing it up.
Scola was a great role player for the Rockets, but he was never considered to be a primary or playmaker for that Rockets team. I would not build around Scola either, he was just a role player when we played with the Rockets. Sengun has all star qualities. Scola best season when he average 18 points and 8 rebounds a game, he was an average passer. Scola was not being double teamed at any point, Scola was not an elite passer or playmaker like Sengun. I think Scola average 2 assists a game at the most, Sengun has a chance this season if KPJ or Silas stop him he will average 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists this year….ONLY IN HIS 2nd year. Scola was a decent defender, he was a smart and physical player. Sengun needs to hit the weight room because he needs to get bigger, stronger and move his feet better to play solid defense. Scola had help around him, Yao, Motumbo and even McGrady to help defensively. We need Wemby or Mo Bamba on our team to help our frontline. When I watch Sengun I see Sabonis not Scola at all. Jalen do not need to build a team around him this guy is a bucket. Someone needs to coach him up on defense, gain weight and stop shooting crazy shots he is going to be great.
That is 100% what I am saying, should we build around a Luis Scola clone. Scola was a role player Yao and Tmac were the two main guys, but on Argentina Scola was THE MAN and averaged well into the 20s and 30s a game. DD
Scola wasn't a playmaker so I find the comparison to be a bit lacking. This is just OP's way of denigrating Sengun since the Rocket's offense looks more cohesive without KPJ.
That is just small minded thinking. I love SCOLA he is my all time favorite Rocket's role player....don't get caught up in slinging mindless arrows because you don't like the message try thinking first. DD
