That's fine if google says that, but I don't think that's what it means to most people. At least not the people I know and talk to about sports. Yall can jump in and correct me if that's not what it means to you. In my circles a franchise player is a player that you have determined is good enough to win a championship with, as the best player on the team. A guy where you can say "we have our guy, lets build around him, and we can win it all." Doesn't mean you have to be right, or that they have to have a championship win, but just that the player is good enough that the franchise believes it. That's what I think when someone says "franchise player" despite the wikipedia definition.
Good point. You can run a Sabonis-esque offense with a superstar or two in that system. We don’t need Sengun to shoot a lot of shots, we need him to invert our offense, making us difficult to defend. JG/Jabari/KPJ can all shoot more than Sengun in such a system.
I think Sengun can become that guy. He is only 20, and already breaking records. Certainly takes an intelligent approach in building around him, and a much better coaching staff...but I think his pedigree coming into the NBA is comparable to a young Dirk. And since he arrived here, he has proven many of the naysayers wrong already.
They'd probably give it to Franz but Alpi is a close second. Franz's advanced numbers are insane. He's gonna be on some allstar ballots.
It's obvious to everyone who the offense should run through and who our best player is. Build around him
