To your point, about 90% of people caught bringing drugs across the border are U.S. citizens

And you don't think most of those people crossing now are coming here to better their lives?

Seriously there were plenty in the 80's who were upset about illegal immigration and claiming it was bringing crime in. If we listened to them your parents should've never been let in nor ever given citizenship.

I'm actually trying to have a fair and reasonable conversation with you regarding this topic but you keep trying to find left wing talking points and just putting them out there. Your points are sincerely irrelevant.

Immigration is one thing, losing control of a border is another. Immigration will always exist, it will exist here or in any country that is better off than the neighboring countries around it. People will always look for better lives and better opportunity. People will always find a way into a country that will offer them that. It is impossible to stop immigration.

So to be clear, immigration will not disappear from this country. It does not matter who supports it or who doesn't. The issue is not immigration, this whole thread is not about immigration. Its not about legal immigration or illegal immigration. Its not about green cards or work visas.

Its about corrupt politicians that have forgotten about our borders. Its about this whole idea that pushing for better border control is racist. Its about how cartel members were able to cross the border and kill people inside the U.S while then fleeing back to their home country. The reason why better border control is needed is to stop these @ssholes from continuing to do this.

We can talk immigration, why its good. Why it can also be very bad. But that's not what is being argued here.

History has shown that corrupt politicians who want authorarianism will concentrate on things like border issues and migrants rather than systemic economic issues.

The border is easy reactionary fodder a politician has at their disposal when they don't have nuanced policy positions

Steve Bannon even said this out loud when he saw how riled the base got from the "build that wall" like in one of his first rallies.

Fun fact: Karl Malone came here illegally and was assisted by John Stockton. John was a border guard at the time.

So people saying that illegal immigration should be stopped is a Left wing talking point?
Yes immigration is a net good that said it's not the "left wing" that are saying that we should crack down on the Southern border, that it's out of control and such. If people actually followed that in the 80's your parents wouldn't have made it across the border.

So let me ask you this. How do you propose controlling the border?

Illegal immigration is unfair to legal immigration. You probably know people who work hard with work visas and do everything the correct way.
They get screwed over, if all they had to do is go to Mexico and cross over.

Well my parents came here legally as did most of my family. They had to wait for paperwork and flew here on a plane. My dad had a full ride scholarship waiting for him at Rice University.

Maybe my dad should've just gone to Mexico and crossed scorching deserts on his feet, forded the Rio Grande while paying off Coyotes instead.

There are people trying to cross to Canada
    https://irb.gc.ca/en/statistics/Pages/Irregular-border-crosser-statistics.aspx
"Canada has been experiencing an influx of individuals crossing the Canada-United States border between ports of entry (“irregular border crossings”). The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB),"

Also in Minnesota we have been dealing with illegal border crossings from Canada.
    https://globalnews.ca/news/9421209/u-s-border-illegal-crossings-canada/"
U.S. seeing uptick in illegal border crossings from Canada
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection has seen a drastic uptick in recent months of people trying to enter North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin illegally from Canada.

Those states have seen about 90 apprehensions since October, said Kathryn Siemer, acting patrol agent in charge of the station in Pembina, N.D. The same area saw roughly 80 apprehensions from October 2021 to September 2022.

“The numbers are definitely increasing back to a pre-pandemic type situation,” she said."

I love when people who live in the northern states have an opinion on what the border is doing to the states that actually border Mexico. Lol. Completely clueless.

What they should do is to move the migrants from the Texas border to the Canadian border

    that way
When you visit Canada, you can find some decent tacos that you find on Gesner

Are you saying a wall isn't going to have much effect on the cartels? Dude, c'mon, we all know that if you come across a 10 foot wall, that's going to deter you from pursuing a billion dollar business.

I love how people who don't live in Northern Border states believe that there are no issues on the Northern border.

Also the US Constitution says that immigration is a federal issue so yes people in other parts of the country have a say on what happens on the Southern border.

We actually have pretty good Mexican food in Minnesota now. I would like to credit it to me moving here but really what has happened is that migrant workers who work agriculture and meat packing are now settling in Minnesota.

Regarding what is happening on the Southern border I actually do think that the Federal government should put more resources into dealing with the migrants there. There should be more resoures to El Paso and other places to getting them settled and integrated. I would support moving more of them to Minnesota provided it was done with the cooperation of the states and the federal government and not just sending them on private planes with no warning.
