So just to be clear, the 2022 Braves that won their division, won 101 games, and had a +180 Run Differential weren't nearly as good as the 2021 Braves that won 88 games and +134 Run Differential? Seems like you're defining spending as being a contender so that you can make the argument that you have to spend to contend. Maybe what the Astros and Braves did the last few years (and the top-spending teams did not) should better justify that spending for the sake of it is not necessarily a formula to win anything, nor is it good for sustaining success.
No major surprises. Leon would have been but obviously he is hurt so that makes sense. Alex McKenna and Brett Conine are the only 2 guys with significant AAA experience who didn’t make the list, and I would expect quite a few AA pitchers not on the list will get called over for spring innings. Tyler Ivey is also MIA. Excited to see how Jairo Solis looks this spring. Could be some found money there.
How many real contenders actually won the WS when they spent more than us? The answer is Zero. What point do you think you are making?
I cannot argue with your experience, but this does happen all the time when a company decides it has found a niche in a market and wants to exploit it to it's fullest and this requires a more financially aggressive spending approach. But it would be foolish apart from a specific opportunity.
That’s who is technically filling each departures 26 man roster spot from Game 6 to opening day 2023, but functionally it’s more like: Diaz: Hensley Vazquez: Lee Mancini: Brantley Verlander: Brown Smith: Taylor Gurriel: Abreu Assuming Brown is the real deal, this roster is probably better than last years.
A healthy Brantley and Abreu added to the offense is so much better than the WS lineup. SP and bullpen has immense talent and depth. I would have liked an upgrade over Chas/Meyers but let’s see how our young guys do. Still well below the tax for a deadline deal if need be. LFG!!
Diaz: Meyers (push) Vazquez: Abreu (big upgrade) Mancini : Brantley (slight upgrade) Verlander : Martinez (big downgrade) Smith : Taylor (slight downgrade) Who the hell typed this? I'm confused.
3B is the deepest position as far as elite players go, looking at the list it actually looks about right. I doubt this fuels any motivation.
Not sure why some on here are treating him like a deity. We love Yuli, sure. But giving him a front office position as someone implored sounds rather ridiculous. We don't even know if that's his ambition at this point. And we certainly have no idea if he's even cut out to do the job.
The role in the front office can be similar to what he has done while a player. Outreach to the Caribbean players generally and Cuban specifically. The specific title and job would come after determining his level of interest and skill set. I use Front office to include any non player paid role, so don't let that be the source of confusion.
