I’m not going to let you goad me into this. You don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to athleticism. Sorry.
Alpi is not Jokic and the players around him are nowhere near as competent as those playing with Jokic. Alpi makes some great passes, the Denver offense is built off of passing and player movement - they play hot potato .... these two things are not the same.
Sengun is not slow or small. The problem I have though is that he is not big or fast either. Physically speaking, I just can't see him as anything but JAG. Is that a dealbreaker in becoming a star or superstar? No, but it is a really high wall that very few people have been able to overcome.
Great point! There was an instance just last night where him and Jabari were on defense switching and the ball swung to an man and Sengun stood flatfooted, because he was unable to run to go cover the open man. It is what it is, that's just not apart of his game.
I don't know about going all in at this point because Sengun is still up and coming. He hasn't established himself as a franchise player yet. If we had a chance to trade for a top 10 player in the league like Luka or Giannis I'd trade Sengun in a heartbeat. ...But he has established himself as the best player that Stone has drafted thus far and should be the #1 guy in the "young core." Last year people were asking is Sengun a good fit with Jalen. Now the question is whether Jalen is a good fit with Sengun. Sengun is the face of the franchise IMO. A skilled big man is a game changer, a lot more so than a skinny guard that plays no defense and is inconsistent on offense. I hope we get Wemby because a frontcourt with Sengun and Wemby would be amazing.
Typical double d and his inflexible mindset of a center. U don't have to follow the basic blueprint of a center to succeed. Just like in life different companies are able to find success doing different things. Sengun can definitely do well and even excel as a starter if we build a team with his defensive weakness and strengths in mind. Similar to the same concept of the post game. It's not dead, it's just harder to master. Folks acting that height and being athletic is all that matters to a center.
So would you start making moves to compliment Sengun's deficiencies? And what type of moves would you make? Respect your op - well said. DD
https://www.nba.com/watch/video/alperen-sengun-top-blocks-so-far-1-6-23 Several moments in here where his feet are plenty quick enough.
Jokic came in as a terrible defender but learned how to become a good one over time because of his understanding of positioning on the offensive end. He's bigger than Sengun, so that helps, but I think he can certainly learn to be better despite his physical traits.
He did but he is MUCH bigger than Alpi....I am honestly trying to find a comp - Luis Scola had the exact same issues...... DD
Pros according to DD: Has pizzazz Fun to watch Tries hard on defense Learned not to reach (how cute) Sometimes blocks shots (aww, how cute) Can be offensive hub Cons according to DD: Too short Too unathletic Not quick enough Not long enough Doesn't jump high enough Very flawed Conclusions according to DD: He's like Scola... it would be a major major risk to build around him and he is very very flawed... let's build around him.
I guess, but in order to get better at some point a choice will have to be made, we already have a logjam of unbalanced wing players.....that all need playing time. So, while technically you are correct, assume we get the 5th pick, would you choose to build around Alpi? DD
I can't take @DaDakota seriously when he's constantly changing with however the wind is blowing..... Sometimes we are trading Green for LaMelo Ball (who we'd be build around)..... sometimes we are letting KPJ do whatever he wants and let it fly (who we'd build around)......
I think the two biggest needs are point guard and a center that's a rim protector (preferably 7'). I'd slide Sengun to the 4 and move Jabari to the 3. Off the top of my head I'd say Stone would do well to pursue guys like VanVleet and Myles Turner through trade or free agency.
Thanks for the synapsis, do you have any original thoughts on the topic? Care to engage in fundamental basketball discussion? Seems you just posted what I did....what about your thoughts on the topic? Its a Rocket's basketball forum, were you not aware we are here to talk hoops? That is literally what a BBS is for....... DD
And why do you think the choice would be made this season when we are in the depths of tanking hell? Why do you think the only way to clear out the logjam is to go all in? Even with the 5th pick, I would still make the rational choice and wait and see. I am not so desperate to make wild, franchise altering decisions just because I am unhappy with the current state of things.
