I think another player who should be included in this is Andrew Wiggins, he was a 20 year old sophomore just like Jalen, he was a high draft pick that divided a fanbase....some reflexively defending him, some bashing him who eventually was deemed a bust that turned his career around later on.

The last 2 seasons he's managed to be a pretty solid player even....just not as a lead guy and not on the team that wasted a draft pick on him.

Well maybe because the league let teams play defense then....and it isn't a glorified AAU crap fest like it is now.

i think part of what makes him special is his ability to make tough shots. The problem is all he takes is tough shots ;). Still way too much dribbling and bad decision making for my taste last night despite the high point total…but he’s 20. I still think his ceiling is extremely high, but I need to see him in a structured system with a real coach. I’m definitely alarmed by the lack of development in year 2.

The league played defense with their hands and with less discipline and athleticsm to use literal feet movement to defend.

Modern players are far more disciplined in using their feet over their hands to defend. Hence why ftr% has been higher in the 90s, early 2000s compared to now.

Which is why what he does can work against G league caliber competition, but gets shut down against legitimate NBA caliber competition.

Either way, I'm just happy to see him finally have a solid game on paper even if the Rockets still lost and gave up a million points to what was essentially a G league team that lost their only quality player during the game.

Clutchfans is a weird place. We over rate and under rate players at the same time. Good young players can have bad stretches and need time to develop. Be patient with them. Bad players can get lucky while still being worthless. Remember when Khyri Thomas had a triple double and was our PG of the future? Mason Jones? Squid Williams? I do think that we should be patient with some young guys but others are just trash from the beginning. Hard to provide a blanket statement for every young player cause it really goes both ways.

See the funny thing about this thread is that I would be patient with Green and Alpi but I would cut Nix, who is the exact same age, outright.

WRONG - the league played zone, they played with both their feet and their hands, they were more attuned to team ball and you didn't have unathletic players getting bailed out by refs - you had to actually have skill and athleticism for the most part to excel.....this ball is just chucking it up....

Nope. Modern players are drilled with professional level training staff when they are middle school age now lol.

Modern players are far more disciplined on defense and are laterally moving their feet.

Either refs called ticky tack fouls more back in the 90s or defenders were significantly less disciplined in the 90s and 2000s. Chose one because league average ftr was higher back in the day.

So which is it. Refs called ticky tack fouls more or defenders were less disciplined and used their arms when they got beat laterally more often.

No way would I trade Sengun. I'm disappointed with Green but until we see him with a new coach and minus KPJ, I think we need to be slightly more patient (which is hard for me).

However, Jabari? Not a fan. His D is getting worse. His O is awful. He thinks he's more than he is. That to me is the trifecta of a bust.

So i am a professional level trainer now then huh? Since I have quite a few guys I trained in College right now....lol.......fundamentals are NOT trained at the AAU level, what happens is the best players get with the best teams because their coaches sign shoe deals and the kids get tons of free gear....

There is no more fundamentals training which is why Jalen Green can't go left, has no clue on defense, and has no hesitation move, no euro step, no change of speeds....he is lacking in fundamentals I taught at 10-14....but I guess he didn't have any professionals.

    :)

I trust former NBA players not high on nostalgia flat out telling us that modern NBA prospects have professional level training staffs starting at grade school. It's a far more organized and professional structure than the 90s.

it is what year they are in, not age. Jaylen Brown averaged 14ppg in his second season. Nikola Jokic averaged 16.7ppg in his second season

Damn Green had the hang time to get smacked in the shoulder, snap back in pain, lose the ball, regain control, change his facial expression and softly lay it in with the left hand all while in the air.

    Cory Brewer level **** there.

Imagine complaining about green lack of fundamentals but when It comes kpj ability to playmak he's doing good according to double d. Bias.

Kpj can't run a fast break, kpj hardly utilize the pnr properly, can't find the open man in the corner, fails at bounce passes, hardly gets the ball to a cutter, doesn't utilize the lob threat. We are like dead last in a lot of offense stats in which he is the play maker.
He also freezes the hot player. Like what in the world is this man watching?

It's not simply folks can't hit open shots it that kpj sucks at his role compare to his peers. Kpj lacks passing game fundamentals hence y the Rockets offense suffers.
