100% Cowherd had to ask Payton if it was cool to mention this before he did this…. This was DEFINITELY a passive aggressive NO THANKS from Payton.
If Cal wants and is willing to pay him $20M (or whatever Payton is seeking), who cares? Say what you want about running the franchise but Tilman Fertitta he is not. (cheap) Spoiler Paid Deshaun Paid Culley (5 year deal though only 2? guaranteed; thought I read that, could be wrong) Paid Lovie (4 year deal) Paid Caserio There is no cap on front office/coaching hires. And breaking news: great coach has great player(s). What’s Belichick done without Brady? What’s Pop done without Duncan/Parker/Ginobili/Kawhi? DeMeco doesn’t get to bring Shanahan or the 49ers defense with him. Steichen/Gannon isn’t bringing the Philly O/D with them. You can wonder whether they should give up the draft pick(s) for him, fair. You can wonder whether they should give him power, fair. (Maybe not Bill O’Brien power but still) You can wonder, “Hey, weren’t the Saints always in “cap hell”?” Fair. “WeLl WuZ He MaDe By BrEeS?!” “JuSt OnE SuPeR BoWl!” Blah blah blah https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfl-insider-panthers-owner-david-tepper-likely-skeptical-about-trading-for-sean-payton/ar-AA16wUQq On Thursday, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero joined The Rich Eisen Show and talked about the “Push for Payton.” He began, though, by pushing back a bit on the notion that Tepper would do just about anything to reel in the former New Orleans Saints head coach. “I don’t know that to be the case regarding the Panthers,” he said. “I believe David Tepper is someone who is going to be very skeptical about having to give up multiple high draft picks to get a coach on top of paying him top dollar and all the other things Sean Payton is going to want.” Arizona: He’ll want to set the personnel operation and the Cardinals moved to hire a GM first. That does not seem on paper seem like a situation he’ll want to get into. Never say never. Carolina: I don’t know that it’ll line up with working out a trade. Houston: Does Sean Payton want to work in a setup with Nick Caserio? They had a conversation. That is certainly still alive. The one that makes most sense is Denver. … I don’t know that to be true about the Panthers doing whatever it takes. How much control does Payton want? Sean Payton, back in 2006, flipped that entire organization. Saints had no winning history, coming off a hurricane, had to completely remodel things in terms of players, made one incredible move in Brees but there were other things Sean had to fix over the course of time. He’s shown he can do it but he was also 42/43, now he’s 59. This is not a 10-year build for Sean. He’ll want to do it his way and get things in order. It’s not just a matter of power/control but he won’t want to be told “No, we do things this way because that’s how we do them here.” He’ll want to do things his way, that he knows to be successful in the NFL. It’ll be an interesting conversation. All 4 teams that have requested him have a GM. I have no doubt he’d want to bring in one of his own personnel people even if the existing GM stays in place. When you have that dynamic, you run the risk of friction as you try to build the thing.
Or maybe "james13mvp" isn't the greatest source? I watched the video he shared and it mentions nothing about dinner with Payton or the Texans. It's just Cowherd saying there are good owners and bad owners. Like we here in Houston don't already know that...
if the texans were serious about payton they would have met him in person. this zoom meeting is just for them to show the fans they interviewed payton. i doubt theres real interest. that could change if we here they have now met in person. does anyone know if the demeco meeting is in person.. this better not be a damn zoom meeting lol
No need for “sources” when the info is out there and Cowherd literally says it out his mouth. Payton and Cowherd are friends and had dinner the night before Cowherd made that comment about disparities in NFL owners. He was taking clear and obvious shots at Cal….and the Texans first meeting with Payton was on Zoom. If its cap, why hasn't Payton or his people disputed it? Players, Coaches and Agents do passive aggressive stuff like this all the time speaking thru talking heads on TV/Radio.
https://www.audacy.com/sportsradio6...social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_term=KILTAM zoom meeting for the texans and ryans
#49ers DeMeco Ryans says his head-coaching interviews will be mix of in-person and virtual. Today’s with #Broncos is in person, he says Also reportedly in his queue: Texans, Colts, Cardinals Bro if what mcclain says is true regarding a zoom meeting with demeco as well . lol
They say they're gonna pay Payton $20 mil/year, but can't afford to fly candidates in for an interview.
or even just take the private plane like they did to hire caserio. denver have met most of there candidates in person. Texans as usual probably already made there mind on gannon (which was only interviewed by them ) lol no-one else.
Don’t they usually bring the candidates in for second interviews? Also what if his schedule couldn’t fit in both travel? Seems we’re trying to connect dots to things that’s difficult to do in the first place.
broncos meeting demeco in san fran in person, i wouldnt see why texans cant.. maybe mcclain is wrong and we are meeting him in person
It just doesn’t move the needle. Sean Payton instantly becomes the best coach in history of this club. If you don’t want to give up assets, I’d prefer to go with a coach who doesn’t have Texans ties. Just my opinion.
This isn’t complicated. If you want your target, you bring them in or fly to see them. You don’t set up zoom meetings. This is all BS PR by the Texans.
