I would take Ryan over everyone else, give me the up and comer and see if he can turn this dumpster fire into a winning product
Me too. Use our top 2 picks on defense. BPA after that except RB. I’m no draft expert. If this is a deep draft for OL or TE that’s where i would go in round two if the BPA numbers are close.
And once again you missed the point here. This is fodder for the talking heads because the Texans created the situation with their actions. They have now gone through FOUR head coaches in as many years. Three of them were black and of those three only one (Romeo) was treated fairly and he was headed out the door into retirement. The Culley hire was deliberately done so they could use him as a scapegoat. He was hired because he was not qualified which gave Nick total control over the coaching staff. So when things went bad, Nick & Cal were able to stand up on the podium and blame him for the team's lack of success. Which then leads to Lovie who was only hired in a last minute desperation move because Brian Flores caused Nick's plan to hire McCown to blow up in his face. To Nick & Cal, these guys were simply disposable props to be used and jettisoned when the time was right and that is the reason why the press - particularly the black press - is calling them out for their perceived racist actions. Context doesn't matter here at all because this is a situation that never should have happened in the first place. Had Cal & Nick conducted the same type of coaching search last year that they are conducting this year, this wouldn't be an issue at all.
Your post is full of some facts, some opinions, some fantasy and no context. The Culley hire was in a brutal situation where you were ripped apart franchise with no talent, no salary cap, picks traded away and a superstar QB who was never going to play for you again. As for Nick controlling the staff, we have no idea how much of the staff Nick controlled, but a lot of the names on the coaching staff were guys connected to either Lovie Smith or David Culley. As for the Lovie hire, no doubt that was a last minute decision. Flores lawsuit blew up their ability to hire FLORES. Whether they were ever going to hire McCown is impossible to know. We know Jack Easterby loved McCown, we really don't have a clue whether Nick or Cal did. As for Lovie not being treated fairly...he picked almost his entire staff. I don't see how he was treated unfairly. Culley got hired into a terrible situation and was almost certainly going to fail. That doesn't mean it was a 1 year hire though, it just turned out he was even worse than could have been anticipated at simple game management. He wasn't qualified for the job, but nobody wanted the gig. It was a terrible situation. I won't say he got treated unfairly, because he got a gig he never would have gotten otherwise. Hell, he said it himself at his press conference. Now, I get it. The Texans are completely dysfunctional and so the media is going to go wild on them.
Correct. What's the first thing you hear when there are accusations of racism? Get someone black to publicly "vouch" for your organization (MAGA) or talk about how many black friends/employees/servants are employed by said organization (Hanna). Which is what they are now doing. This is a waste of time and convinces nobody. Look, folks here who have followed the Texans for 20-plus years know that this isn't a racist organization. They simply aren't that smart. It was Bob who opened the door for that impression with his words and actions against those players who were peacefully protesting what happened to George Floyd. And it was Nick & Cal who continued that impression with their actions of the past two years. In circumstances such as this, the less said the better. Given enough time, the national media will move on to the next big thing.
True. So please explain why you then go out and find the most unqualified guy for the task at hand. Exactly how did that make things better for the team and the organization? You appear to have conveniently forgotten about Nick havng a headset on gameday so he could "speak" to Culley. Also, it's documented that Culley did not pick his staff and was largely a figurehead. Now this is being disingenious with yourself. Everybody knows they wanted to hire McCown. Flores called them out on their sham interview process with his lawsuit and that blew their plan up in their faces. Jack loved McCown and Nick was ready to hire him. They (Nick & Jack) were even trying to get other teams to interview McCown in order to increase his legitimacy as a head coaching canidate. Lovie was hired with the express purpose of providing them cover from the Flores lawsuit. He was not hired because they believed in him or his ability to coach. They never considered him a viable choice and he was never going to be given enough time to turn things around here. So if you never planned on giving him a real chance to better things on the field, why bother hiringe him in the first place? How can that be considered fair treatment? So they hire a guy they knew from the start who wasn't qualified for the job, who was certain to fail and then, when he fails they fire him because he was not qualified for the position and did a poor job. Help me here: in what universe does this make sense? Also, please explain how this is something an organization does when it is serious about being successful. As for nobody wanting the job, we both know that's hogwash. There are only 32 of these jobs available so when one opens up there will always be folks waiting to apply.
Seems like every team wants the same 5 guys or so. Interesting. Also interesting, I'm not sure if the guy that many report is our leading candidate, Jonathan Gannon, has any other interviews scheduled anywhere. Essentially, that makes him a lock for our job, right?
Payton was really careful with his words. Essentially, he sees the division as open competition, he's seen the McNairs on the practice field and maybe talked to Caserio once or twice. Wouldn't call any of this earth shattering. Oh, and we have really good draft capital, didn't comment on any of the current players.
You will take the 33rd pick and like it! Spoiler Overly optimistic (and unlikely): trade Cooks for a 2nd, send 2nd (maybe even two) to New Orleans. Then again, not sure Cooks can be traded in the next 2 weeks? Houston: 2-12-33-65-73 Arizona: 3-34-66 Carolina: 9-39-60-92 LAC: 21-54-85 Denver: 28-67-68 (New Orleans: 40-71) He’ll probably go elsewhere anyways but I lean towards not trading 12. So how desperate are you?
